I would like to mount a wireless and battery operated security camera at my marina and connect to the wifi for remote viewing of our boat. I have a pole where I can mount it and point it at the boat so it will act as a webcam. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on models, units that they've bought. Thx

I should add, I do not have a router on board the boat, so whatever I use has to be totally standalone wifi.

I use Wyze Cams, but they are USB powered, and I have my own internet connection onboard.

Getting access to your camera over the internet may be the tough part. Depends on how the marina wifi system is set up and if thats allowed. Lots of options on Amazon, but I would think one with a good app to your phone would be the better choice.

    Amazon Choice..

I have been considering this myself. If/when I do it this year I'll go with an Arlo system. The Arlo Pro can be had for sub $200 with a base station.

I prefer nest myself but they do not have a wireless (battery) option...

I have Blink, but can't get it connected yet. May be the wifi connection or speed, but I don't know yet.

Thanks, I was thinking of using Blink, but what about the sync module? doesn't that have to be plugged into a router? The marina wouldn't allow me to do that.

What about the synch module? That has to be plugged into a router correct? I wouldn't be able to do that, looking for a standalone.

Wyze. Have used 3 of them for years. Simple set up, pan & tilt, night lighting or not, audio or not. Simple.

I have Arlo with the plug in solar panel option. Set it and forget it.

I use this little guy Foscam Mdl R2... it works great... and cheap so you don’t care about it.... panning and sound are important and it has motion. So it texts you. It also has 24 hour cloud f or free....
If you ever saw my raccoon thread... this camera caught him by texting me from motion in the boat.

    +1 on Blink

The Sync Module connects wirelessly to the router, there is no ethernet port on the module. Also, once the blink cameras are registered with the sync module, they can communicate by talking to the sync module or directly to the wireless router.

I have the Arlo Go, which has battery or solar and uses cell service, so you don’t depend on WiFi. I love using it in the winter as well as a security camera while the boat is covered with no power.

I have 3 Ring Cameras on GT, Cockpit, Salon & one attached to 14” 4x4 so I can set up & point anywhere. If we’re side tie or in some other configuration I can move the camera where I might want it pointed. Been running them since last June around the Chesapeake Bay all the way to KW for the winter. We have Island Time PC’s WiFi & router set up as well as a Mifi if no good free service available.

System works great with tremendous flexibility and fine tuning for verifications settings.

I called Blink. They said the synch module won't connect to a public network. How are you guys with Blink connected? Wifi router on the boat taking the marina wifi then making it private?

This is when I like my Arlo Go cameras. No wifi needed and all via celullar service. You do have to pay a monthly fee, but they work anywhere where there's cell service, including during the winter when in storage.

Blink should connect just fine as long as your connecting to a secured network requiring a password. I tried Foscam and wasn't impressed (although I use them at home).

Wyze won out for me. They connect quickly when I open the app, record motion and the notifications are quick.

Exactly. Our marina Wifi is open. No password required.
