Wireless security camera suggestions

Bought three blink cameras after reading this thread, two for the house outdoors, one for the boat.

The boat is in a covered slip with lots of birds, will the birds constantly trip the thing off with motion?

You can set the sensitivity. But if wifi goes out, so does your camera. You can't record footage 24/7, only what it senses as motion and uploads to the cloud.

One if my Wyze lost wifi earlier today. When it came back up, I can access all my recordings...about 2 weeks worth, 24/7. Wifi or not, they record. And motion alerts are as good, if not better thank Blink.

I wanted to go with Wyze, however I don't want to have to worry about an AC power source. I like the idea of an SD card however the boat's about 90 minutes to 2 hours from my house so the cloud is more valuable to me.

The newest version of the Nest outdoor cameras are interesting. You can use them as "true wireless" for motion activated only or plug them in for 24/7 recording.

I've been very pleased with the Nest on my boat for the past 2 years...

So if you use a foscam camera they have a cloud app and you can download the files right from the app and view them. Given you have iNet that is.

Understandable....my boat was 2.5hrs from the house. Wyze also has a "cloud" with instant notifications and no cap on records...plus you can login remotely and rewind the SD Card. Blink is good though, just very limited...

Installed 2 Blink Outdoor cameras at my house yesterday. Easy install and configuration, 5 minutes. Happy with it so far. Bought 1 for the boat as well, will install that next weekend.

Oh, got some nice close up of a curious bird on one of them already.

Got a blink camera installed in my cockpit today, connected to the gateway and wi-fi, very simple.

I'm looking at something for the house. I like Wyze but wiring is the issue. I think I could use my attic light that I access from the garage. I want one above the garage door and the other above my rear sliding door to the patio. It'll take a bit of usb extension lines to get to the rear sofit. For the garage I guess I could use the garage door opener outlet and run the wire along the garage ceiling and then garage door opening.
Arlo is on sale and they have a decent wireless system, I guess. Certainly less hassle.

Wyze has a floodlight that takes the place of your porch light, giving it power. I have one in front and one in back. Hard to beat that...

Blink = no cables

But if wifi goes out, so does the camera. With Wyze, wifi dies and the cameras still record...

Not wireless because the cameras are on all of the time and batteries would be an issue, we have Lorex IP POE cameras around our properties and on the boat. The systems have been rock-solid on performance especially in night/low light vision. The boat is also IP POE with a NVR installed. The NVR is powered through an inverter so it's not reliant on the marina's dock power. As a "duh" moment though, when marina power drops so does the marina's Wi-Fi - hurricane issue. However, the system continues to record; I just can't access the cameras from home or mobile device.
The good thing is all of the systems are accessed via a common app either through the PC's, Ipad, or cells.

That would work in the backyard. No bueno in the front. I have the 3 garage lights on every night with a timer. I don't want to disable that.

I used my porch light up front and it works well.

I like Wyze , I have the app on my phone and can pull up all 8 of my house cameras. All wireless except for power. The pricing for their cameras is very reasonable.

I don’t know …. I am getting a bit cynical when it comes to cameras. I put the most expensive Lorex system in the house 5 cameras….. the only thing I caught was my daughter backing her one day old suv thru the garage door….. it made for a hilarious group text with her siblings but that was it.
Then as much driving as I do between Indy, Michigan and Ohio I was seeing all kinds of crazy shit on the highway. So had a $500 dash cam put in …… then zero…. Not a single thing worth recording for 3 years.
The camera on the boat helped solve the raccoon mystery….. got to see a beating but that was it
This past Halloween my daughter had all her candy stolen from he front porch recorded on a ring….. basically she got to watch her candy taken to a get away car…and away they went…. But too dark to identify anything
My advice if you’re going thru the trouble. Make sure you have the resolution, night vision with proper lighting …. Buying the camera is just the beginning

I really like Reolink cams. You can plug in, use the internal battery, or plug in a solar panel.
