Have 98 Sundancer 290. Selenoid to raise/lower outdrive went bad. I'm told an engine has to be removed to reach the selenoid. Short of hotwiring the selenoid every time we want to raise or lower it does anyone know of a work around?

guessing you have an I/Om unplug the pump, disc the pos and neg cables .insulate the red,,remove the 2 hyd lines remembering what went where, remove pump by removing the screws in the bracket, remove pump to a easy location to replace solenoids
Looking at some pictures online of a 98 sea Ray 290 bilge, I can see why they say an engine has to be removed, tight space. But I would think any knowledgeable mechanic would figure out a way to do it, without removing an engine. Just by looking at a picture online, I would think at most maybe removing exhaust riser/elbow and intake manifold/TB and then just lean over the motor to change the solenoid. Of course, in person you can see what's doable and what's not.
I just googled you boat and bilge and am assuming. I'm assuming the pumps/solenoids are in back corners and without being able to see in person, I'm assuming you can remove things to access the solenoids, not removing the entire motor. That's just what I'm thinking by looking at pictures.
