Teleflex Throttle Adjustment

Hi everyone,

Question regarding throttle adjustment on a 2005 320 with inboards and Teleflex twin throttles.

The port throttle lever has always been tight and it only takes a slight movement to go from idle (~650rpm) to 1,000 rpm and beyond.

The starboard throttle lever has always had much more "slack" and probably moves about a inch before the engine goes from idle to the first 1k in rpm. At speed, this throttle lever has always been about an inch ahead of the port throttle lever to match rpm. The attached photo shows how offset they are, both engines are about 1,200 rpm and you can see how more forward the starboard lever is.

Today I took of the cover and adjusted the tension screw and the stops but nothing seemed to take the slack out of the first inch or so if throttle travel on the starboard lever.

Any ideas? Do I need to make an adjustment at the engine or with the cables?

Thank you!

Slop in the cable can be adjusted out by shortening the cable. This is done by adjusting the end connectors screwed into each end. Probably easier to do at the engine. Get the service manual and read up on adjusting your throttle cables. There is pre-load you should have in there to make sure that idle is really closing the butterflies. If someone serviced the tight side, then they may have not set the pre-load, or accidentally adjusted it out.

Thank you for the info. I don’t have the teleflex manuals but will look them up online and poke around in the ER next time I am down at the boat. Thanks again!

I know this is an old thread SouthernCross but did you ever get this fixed and how?
