Nine COVID-19 Myths That Just Won't Go Away
From a human-made virus to vaccine conspiracy theories, we rounded up the most persistent false claims about the pandemic
"As the world continues to battle the coronavirus, it is also fighting a different sort of epidemic: misinformation. This “infodemic” is just as harmful as COVID-19 itself, leading people to downplay the severity of the disease and ignore public health advice in favor of unproved treatments or “cures.” Here are some of the most insidious falsehoods about the pandemic, and why they are wrong."
Myth 1: The novel coronavirus was engineered in a lab in China.

Ya know, the virus likes old folks, 80+% of those that die are 65 and up. In the USA 16% of our population is 65 and older, that equals 53 million old folks. Yup, just high risk old folks alone we got 1.4 times the whole population of Canada. Should it be a surprise we have a much larger death toll?

Canada's 65+ population is about 14.5%, some folks would say it's not much different than the USA, but it is lots different, Canada only has about 5.5 million high risk virus targets 65yo and up.

Did you know Canada has 55 cities with a population over 100k and the USA has 285 over 100k. Population size and density make a difference.

Speaking of age, I was wondering why Africans over there in Africa weren't dropping like flies. They certainly got a lot of black folks there, and po' folks, and not to good of healthcare. Did you know 41% of the people in Africa are 15yo or younger? The virus don't find the young folks near as tasty as the old ones.

I might of exaggerated a bit when I said there were a gazillion things making it hard to compare countries but there's alot for sure.

It definitely ain't all about masks.

That's the thing. People have lost all analytical perspective. Young people are at a very low risk. Yet college parents all over the facebook going after young kids who dared have a party before school starts. Kids are being summarily suspended/expelled. People don't even know the risk breakdowns and how this thing is even caught anymore. They are just in all out drama queen panic mode.

The same applies to Remdesivir which has less research behind it but is being used widely and touted widely. HQC has a long history of effective use for other ailments. IMO the anecdotal information and the studies that have been done on HQC show it's effectiveness and support its use. Rememdesivir does not have that even, IMO.

Given the choice I'd take the HQC regimen.
Actually, Remdesivir was shown effective in reducing hospitalization due to covid in a randomized trial, double blind trial. More importantly, Dexamethasone was shown by the same study to reduce covid fatalities and it is now in wide use but we don't seem to hear much about that. This is the kind of study HCQ hasn't succeeded at for any use against covid, at least as yet, even though more study effort by far, has been directed at HCQ.
This is all thanks to the Brits; our decentralized health care system doesn't lend itself to organizing behind the large-scale trial efforts that might have gotten us much further along and there has been little federal leadership.
I wouldn't blame you for asking for HCQ early on if you got covid but I would damn sure want to get Remdesivir and Dexamethasone if I ended up in the hospital.

Good, IMO, article about the state of covid studies:
Data show panic and disorganization dominate the study of Covid-19 drugs

Yes, for the under 30 group in the US something around 300 or less have died nationwide. Still too many, but.

For the schools, it's not so much the students but the teachers who worry, and who demonstrate (the students party!). The teachers are more vulnerable the older they get. Just like us.

So, have young teachers in the classrooms, and have the vulnerable older ones with the online instruction.

See how simply things are solved? / sarc.

Good Luck, Alnav. They all are very easy. Dave Barry will tell you about colonoscopy here: https://www.miamiherald.com/living/liv-columns-blogs/dave-barry/article1928847.html
Great piece, gotta love Dave Barry. I've been getting "finger waves" all my adult life. For some reason, they are part of annual Navy physicals regardless of age. I even had a Navy doc (female) give me one for a backache once. And I've been getting colonoscopies since I was 50, and on an accelerated basis since they found one stinking polyp once.

Me not want remdesivir based on a France trial

• Remdesivir has been found to be potent in vitro inhibitor of RNA viruses including SARS-CoV-2, but its in vivo potency is still under investigation.
• This study report the clinical and biological features of five patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and treated with remdesivir for compassionate use.
• For two patients, viral loads in nasopharyngeal samples decreased, despite active replication in the lower respiratory tract area.
• The treatment had to be interrupted in four of the five patients, because of ALT elevation and/or renal failure.

Yes, there is a disorganized state of Covid-19 pharmacology for sure.

The biggest challenge is not the teachers themselves getting sick, its them bring it home to their spouses, taking it to the store, the nursing home when they visit dad, etc. I think there will be a resurgence once schools open.

Vaccinating the teachers and kids as a priority once one is available will help, and the vulnerable as well. It ain't over. I am glad I don't have kids in school any more.

Rather than start a new post, I'll add to this one. Can someone please explain to me why I can't get a freaking refill on a fountain drink? Are we really spreading covid via the clicker in the back the turns the fountain on?

Come on man, we’ve got to do something so we don’t feel helpless, even if it doesn’t make any sense. LOL

Fake news. Go look at the reg, the illustrated shield would not qualify. Here's one that would:

If it really is that dangerous why are we not wearing hazmat suits? Why all this fake crap? Why are there not disposal sites for contaminated masks? Why are there no standards? Because it’s all about compliance...

I think if we worship to the Golden calf then the god of the golden calf would remove this pestilence from us.
All you Gotta do is believe...

To me Covid-19 infections are unavoidable. The key is protecting the vulnerable. Though that is easier said than done. Perhaps the best approach is not having older teachers in the classroom and exposed to kids or other adults who may have it.

Same with long-term care facilities. They SHOULD be locked down. Haven't that lesson been learned over and over? Around half of all Covid-19 deaths are in long-term care facilities in the US and Canada. Some states/provinces are over 50%.
