With all the nasty politics and this "pandemic" maybe it's time to have a little fun. And, this is fun. Ron Fellows Performance Driving School last month at Spring Mountain Motor Sports Park Pahrump Nv. I'm hooked; off to Sebring raceway in a couple of weeks..

That was awesome! I live near Summit Point, WV. I rode along with a friend who was running his BMW M3 on the track. I went for 3 runs with him. I was exhausted, and all I did was ride in the right hand seat. Fun sport. Enjoy.

Awesome! My son raced asphalt road course karts for about 8 years at Beaverun (Pitt karting raceway now). He also got to run a spec Miata and a Mazda Prp Formula car on the big track just after his 15th birthday. He had never driven a stick until that day and had the fastest lap of the day in the Pro Formula car and had never been on the big track before that day. He hit 119 MPH in his first session when they pulled the data but his 2nd session they didn't pull any data but his fast lap was 1 second better so he may have been closer to 125 top speed.

Here is his video >

Talk about a spendy hobby, I raced SCCA
at Sears Point and Laguna Seca in sports 2000 class. What a hoot! First year I got third place in the race drivers club Championship mainly because I managed to finish enough races. When I figured out that it was costing me $1200 per hour of seat time( and this was in 1991) I decided boating was more relaxing and cost per hour of fun was pennies on the dollar. Wouldn’t give that experience up though for a million bucks!
Have a great time and keep the painted side up!

Yep. We raced with some bigshots and they had the deep pockets that we didn't have. A few NASCAR drivers and a bunch of IndyCar drivers. We used to pit with Erik Jones (the original NASCAR one from about 20 years ago) and former IndyCar driver Mark Dismore. Mark owned a kart dealership and Erik was the importer for the brand of karts we ran. We were at nationals one year and Dismores brought a semi to nationals full of parts. If he knew and trusted you he would just write down what you got from him and either mail you an invoice or you could pay at the end of the weekend. I went up to pay at the end and he said my bill was (about) $550. Ryan Tucker (retired Rams and Browns lineman) was behind me and handed Mark a check for $3000 and told him to send an invoice for the rest. The funny part was Tucker told Mark to give him a t-shirt. Mark asked what size and Ryan said 4x. Mark said no, seriously, what size. Ryans wife replied, no seriously, 4x...lol. His kids raced and we shared the same home track so raced with them every weekend. They were younger than my son and raced in a different class.

But yeah, our annual budget was about $3000-4000. The top guys would spend $10,000 each nationals weekend

Awesome!! I've always wanted to race, but I have a boat.

My wife got me an intro to racing day at Skip Barber racing school about about 18 years ago. I went to Lime Rock, CT. It was awesome. It didn't make me want to go race as a hobby, but it was a darn fun experience. I use the lessons every time I go go-karting with my kids.

That’s awesome.
I love my C6 convertible, bought it new and love dropping the top for fair weather cruising. but not acceptable for the track.
Hoping to get a new C8 in two years or so. That one will be a Z06 and will see some time at Lime Rock.

I have been around the Indy track a couple of times....but the best time was around Pocono on my motorcycle....that was crazy and flat out...the banking in the corners is unreal..... I had goose bumps for hours after....definitely a way to blow off some steam

Turn 3 @ Pocono may as well be flat! Especially compared to turn 1..

I dont think I understand... the banking at Pocono is steep to say the least it doent seem like alot but when you stand on it...it sure seems like alot Turn 1: 14° Turn 2: 8° Turn 3: 6°

I did the stock car experience there a bunch of years ago. What I found was Turn 1 was amazing, Turn 2 pretty easy, Turn 3 was work getting the car to track in..

  • Turn one (14° banking)
  • Turn two (8° banking)
  • Turn three (6° banking)

I started racing go karts last year at age 55. Absolute blast! Best stress relief ever. One regret.
Wish I started earlier in life.

I'm off to Sebring Raceway Sept 16th for my second event. SCCA Track Night. Can't wait! Novice of course. Installing Hawk brakes, lines, and high temp fluid as well as setting up Harry's Laptimer on this:

That will be backordered at least a year....

This was my sons last kart. It was an Arrow X1. They were made in Australia and had a Parilla Leopard TaG engine. About 28 HP ,, water cooled and weight with him on it was 365lbs. (we had about 20lbs of lead on it to get to the 365 minimum).

Here is a screenshot from regionals one year. My son finished 4th behind Mark Dismore (Blaise). We were running an older motor. The following week we ran nationals with our fresh motor and qualified at 56.3 but everyone picked up for nationals. He ran 56.3** and pole was 55.9 and we were 15th. There were about 8 karts in the 56.3's. There were 43 in the race.

I have a few of him on the track but have to search for those

oh, and an FYI...our engine builder was Sean Cook. His uncle was part of the old Stone, Woods, and Cook race team. His dad was Bill Ray who I think drove the car the last few years. His uncle was the original Cook then for some reason left or died then Seans dad Bill Ray took over.

That will be backordered at least a year....

We have a couple of dealers in the region with healthy allocations.
Did the “buyer’s tour” the last time, will do the same the next time and since I’m retired now and have the time I’ll go back again for a museum delivery so I can enjoy the ride home.
