Had a new to me occurrence this morning at our marina. My wife and daughter decided to spend the night at the marina after our weekend outing. My wife called me at 6am to say that the CO monitor was going off in the guest stateroom where my daughter was sleeping. She knows the drill so she woke up my daughter and got the the boat open and put a fan in place to get the air flowing. I had her check the docks to see if someone had a something running and sure enough across the fairway there was someone’s boat running upwind from our slip. Never thought CO could be an issue at this distance but there it was.

scary stuff. I keep a portable CO detector in my sons cabin on the floor near where he sleeps.

were the hatches or doors open?

No, everything was closed.

wow, scary!

Lots of fishing boats around us that go early and come back late so I’ll be making sure the detector is nearby and I have to replace all 3 factory ones on our new boat

We have had the CO detectors go off from diesel boats whose owners idle their engines for 10-15 minutes to warm them up before departing.

Wow. Thanks for this. Keep diligent fellow boaters. I'd wake up and think the CO monitor was bad and unplug it with my luck.

During winterization I set my CO Detectors off once in a while.

Usually when the cabin door is open (going back and fourth for tools) and the hvac is on.

It's a good wake up call about the hazards of CO.
