What’s an assault weapon?

I know quite a few people with 'assault weapons' and not a single one has ever shot anyone with them.

I was in law enforcement for a few years, step-son is a detective and just got sworn in with the FBI today and the majority of all other law enforcement officers endorse the 2nd amendment. Some areas it may take up to 30 minutes for police to get there. Are you going to call a timeout while you wait for them? I can almost guarantee if there was a CCW holder nearby when a mass shooting occurred the damage would be less in most cases. But this cannot be substantiated so you will never hear it said. Even then you will never hear MSM say 'a CCW holder saved lives by stepping in...'

pretty sure nobody is saying gun owners are bad. I for one would never say that. I've always liked shooting ... things have gotten a little out of control, both in this thread and enforcing current laws. But enforcing current laws makes some people think the 2nd is coming down next. As for "when shit hits the fan" i think it already is.
 
I have YET to hear of a gun owner showing up at a mass shooting and "saving the day"
ASSAULT WEAPONS are weapons of war and we're banned in the 1990's and God willing will be banned again!

Assault weapons are weapons of war that are designed to kill many humans in a short amount of time. They are NOT designed for hunting animals. Their sole purpose is to kill humans.

Let's all relax here. Mary has a valid point. Yes you can kill an animal with a .223 for sure. I know a story of a guy who laid waste to a polar bear at close range with one, took a full mag to do it tho. But let's face it, the AR is a weapon of war and nobody in their right mind would prefer to hunt with one over .... say a Mauser M18. End of story.

I don't believe anyone here is against enforcing current laws... it's the give an inch, they take a mile most have issues with.

The current administration campaigned on buy backs. How do you buy back something you never owned?

Therein lies the problem. It's much easier to make more laws than it is to enforce existing ones. And who do you think those new laws affect? People who actually respect the law.

Wrong. The 2nd Amendment is a check on the government. An unarmed citizenry are mere subjects required to obey the King's orders.
