500/520 DB official thread

TIM Get yourself a can of "Coil Clean" and spray down the coils on the unit May be restricted air flow causing the freeze situation. Available on line and at most RV stores.
First thing I looked at was filter. Second was the coils. Both very clean. But good thought!

I think I have it worked out… After a flushing with a bleach water solution, I let sit for an hour. After turning back on, it pushed out some pure nastiness!

it’s fine now unless I turn the temp way down. Then it will ice but not throw Hi Pressure error.

Tim

Tim,

If you have good air flow and things around the bed are not restricting the air flow, then the unit may need to be charged with Freon.

I swear, every week is something new...

Bridge A/C has no power. The breaker is on in the main panel. Is there another breaker?

I’ve searched the manual as well as the parts manual and don’t see one.

Tim

Looking to replace the gold knobs on the shifters and throttle. Looks like there are a few sizes. Anyone know what size ours are?

Thanks,
Tim

So I am getting ready to flush my ac system with barnacle buster. I have the bucket with pump set up and the cap for the sea strainer ready to go. I am heading to the boat Thursday and am trying to wrap my head around where to recirculate the discharge from. I have not investigated the hoses to the outlets yet and would like to have all my pieces and parts before I go. Has anyone tapped into any certain location before or know size of hose going to overboard discharge? I’m assuming I could do the whole port side system at once? Thanks for any thoughts.

The best is to recirculate the BB to the bucket and do that for a couple of hours each circuit. But, first blow down the circuit with the water hose and clean out the mud and debris.
I have nylon hose fittings installed for each AC unit; one at the raw water pump and one at the AC unit discharge. There is several feet of discharge hose I simply can't get to as it is behind just about every installed cabinet in the boat.

Those fittings are what I’m after. Do recall size or where you sourced them from?

Tom,
Are you flushing the entire raw water discharge line? The Master Stateroom AC raw water discharge connects to the starboard side main drain behind the galley freezer. Are you pulling the freezer out every time you do your flush? Is it better to run BB thru the entire system and then shut the unit down and let sit for several hours?

I have a disconnect to hook up the circulation system in the laundry room just under the Freezer; there is about two feet of hose that doesn't get done.
I have resolved that if those short sections of hose become restrictions then I'll fill them and let it sit for a while. Same with the other AC units. However, no issues yet.....

Do all the ac units discharge into the main drain line?

The Master Cabin and Bridge A/C units both dump into the starboard drain line. The Salon and VIP Cabin A/C units both dump into the Port Drain.

Some of us also have a drain port drilled under the Master Cabin bed dumping that A/C overboard on the port side of the bow. Might have been a Service Bulletin Repair.

I will post the drawing tomorrow but it should be in the owners manual…

These drains were a mystery to me so I made these sketches up using drawings from the 52DB Parts Manual; first is Starboard and second is Port. I'm 95% sure they are accurate. The cabin AC condensate drains all go to the sump box. Missing is the Starboard Engine Room Air Plenum Drain - I can't find that, yet. I have added the watermaker drain, galley sink drain, and plugged the ice maker drain. My new ice maker by design drains back into fresh water tank.

What is a Starboard Engine Room Air Plenum Drain?

What is a Starboard Engine Room Air Plenum Drain?
The engine room air intakes on the sides of the boat have a plenum which the air passes through allowing air to pass but not water. In the bottom of the plenum is a water drain much like those that drain the water from around the engine room access hatch. Those drains are tied into the common drain header in our boats.

I am having the same intermittent HPS fail on the Master Cabin A/C. I have flushed it with fresh water but I have destroyed two impellors with the Rydlyme flush.

Both were pushing the water through strong so I wonder if I need a special sort of pump/impeller that is not destroyed by the Barnacle Buster or Rydlyme?

That brings up an important question....How often should the impeller be replaced on the AC Pump?

Tim

To clarify below I am referring to the flush pump not my A/C Pump.

I use that same pump to fill the engines with antifreeze but that's it. It doesn't really flow enough to circulate and carry the flush crap from the A/C system or engines plus it has a zinc housing.
I use a cheap Harbor Freight 1/4 HP sump pump; the BB is pretty corrosive to zinc so it is hard on pumps in general - I think over the years I'm on my third HF cheapo sump pump and I flush them with fresh water after every use. This is one like I have been using -
