420/44 DB Owners Club

I was on a mooring this weekend jumped in the water and scrubbed the water line. You won’t believe it but my boat has a stbd list. I never really noticed it before you guys mentioned it. Thanks I guess. I’m going to ask my wife to move her shoes to the guest cabin closet. Problem solved.

Mark.60:

I think we met at 3 mile harbor a few weeks back. Mine had the same issue and drove me crazy. In reading/researching a fix, I ended up purchasing 400 pounds of reclaimed lead shot which was bagged in 25# nylon bags, that were sealed with a twisted steel tie. Made the for easy movement and secure placement. I placed the bags evenly under the port side (outside) bunk and worked my was back to the engine room adding a few bags on port side behind engine near holding tank. 400# (16 bags) fixed the issue 100%. Did not impact performance at all. I later added 200' of 5/16 anchor chain with 100" of line replacing the factory chain/rode. According to Sea Ray, the anchor rode in this configuration was a factory option so I followed their specs. Boat rides true and balanced and I never drag when on the hook. I Also replaced the factory Kodiak plow anchor with a polished stainless steel Ultra (plow) Anchor. I like the finish of the polished stainless plus had a friend with a 480 DA who purchased one and swore by it. I got the 21kg/46Lb. At $2,000+ new swivel, etc., not cheap but definitely gets the job done.

p.s. Do you have a Hurley davit on your boat? I just purchased the H30 with extension. Installing this week. Replacing hydraulic SeaWise unit (for sale).

I've been following the thread regarding the systems monitor. Question for ttmott, it appears as though there is a very large plug underneath the interface module. Does that unplug somehow? Also, if you are willing to part with the interface, I may be interested in it if it might rectify my issues.
Thanks!

Thank you! Just ordered some to try.

The electronics in that display get hot and it eventually starts going haywire. Look under the display at the potting behind; if it is bubbled and looks cooked you are probably doomed to replace at some point in the future.
I have the engine room interface module still from my boat - you are welcome to try that also. I will say that moving the monitoring over to the Maretron system I installed was one of the best things I've done to the boat....
ttmott,
I while back I had posted that my starboard engine is not sounding the alarm when I am starting the engine. Port and gen both do as normal. You suggested I check voltage to the ign wire down at the engine room interface which I did and it does have power when ignition switch is turned on. Any other suggestions regarding this? I do want to do the Marathon conversion as you did but it will have to wait till probably next year at which time I hope I can connect with you for help with making the change.
Thanks

Can anyone point me in right direction for replacement rollers on the anchor roller? Best I’ve figured out it was made by sealux but can’t find both rollers to replace with new ones.
Thanks

So it seems I have to replace my house batteries. I'm not well versed in this area so looking for recommendations based on the 42/44 battery config. From what I can tell I have 2 sets of house batteries which are dual purpose group 31 flooded lead batteries. Battery charger is ProNautic 1250 P

It's odd that the other alarms work fine but the one doesn't. So, let's see - you are getting battery voltage at the Ign wire on the monitor module as you should when the Ign is turned on. So what would be the determining factor weather the engine should alarm or not? Usually, an oil pressure switch which opens (or closes depending upon the wiring logic) once the oil pressure is up to a given pressure; that says a couple of things - one that the engine is in fact is running and it has acceptable oil pressure which would terminate the alarm.
The Systems Monitors across SR boats are wired a variety of ways so I would next determine if there is an oil pressure switch used in your system and is it functioning correctly..... Something has to tell the monitor that the engine is actually running; ignition voltage doesn't provide that.

Yeah I guess I didn’t think to check oil pressure switch-duh!
I’ll see if I can locate that and what the parameters for testing it are. Thanks

That looks great, is there more space in the refrigerator side?

This is a source I use often. Check this link. They have some. Not sure if exact.

These guys do not show in stock but they're still in business. Worth a call.

Another thought just came to mind on this - Since my oil pressure is working on the gauge, wouldn't that tell us the oil pressure switch is working?

Probably two different switches/senders. Switch = open/closed. Sender = variable resistance to the gauge.
If that's the case then how to track the trigger for the alarm on the monitoring display to work.

Look to see where the wire from pin 14 on the Systems Monitor Interface Module connector goes: hopefully to an oil pressure switch on the Starboard engine. That is the Stbd engine Oil Pressure sense wire. The port engine one is pin 3 so you have both to compare the signals. They should be digital (on / off) +12V or grounding signals.

Thanks for posting that diagram ttmott. May have to wait till it cools off a little to trace that wire as I believe it will take me a while chasing harnesses in engine room.

Yea, I get it. Hopefully someone that knows the 6CTA well can chime in....

Victor, I just replaced mine on my 506 and found them at Marine Depot Direct. I just found them by surfing around the net. Check out their site and measure the length and diameter as well as the shaft diameter.
Good luck

tmott, where is that interface module you sent a diagram of located in the bilge.? Is that the bottom "plug" on the unit that the coax is screwed in to? There is a black box with coax going in to it located next to the fuse box. I took the cover off of what I thought was the interface module and there really isn't anything in that box. It also has that hard protective "gel" like material covering some circuits. I'm confused!!
