500/520 DB official thread

Hit 1000hrs on our way to Portsmouth NH today from Kennebunk ME. We are making this 117’ Ocean Alexander look good.

Anyone know what light bulb goes in the hatch under the galley? It's the long bulb?

Thanks,
Tim

Our Port Fuel Gauge went to empty on our last trip. We had more than a quarter tank of fuel at the time.

Any trouble shooting ideas? I am not familiar with these senders, I crawled back there today and found they have multiple wires and access is tricky above the tanks. Thought about switching the Smart Craft Gauges around at the Vessel View to see if it follows.

There is an access panel in the salon directly over the tank gauge. You may need to remove the couch to access the panel. 2 wires and held in place by two screws. The gauge is a Rochester #P5631S02539

I learned filling up today that the gauge starts to read at 70+/- gallons.

Any ideas why the gauge would go to zero gallons once the tank was below that mark?

Hey guys. I have a few updates on the issues that I posted about a few weeks ago:
1) The original sunscreen for the 500DB was made by Goia Sales Inc. Out of NJ (There is another Goia Sails in FL, but this is a separate company). https://gioiasails.com/home/
They have the suncreen patterns all ready to go. A new sunscreen is $1,100 in case yours got damaged like mine or is wearing out.
2) I was able to place a larger screw in the original snap location to replace the ones that got ripped out. It's good as new!
3) As for the bow sunpad - what is the best setup? I know that the original DB did not have a tip up back. Are there later DBs that had a tip up back on the sunpad? I would love to see some other sunpad configurations. Thanks!

Tom

It seems the wiper on the resistance wire in the sender is loosing contact. The level sender is worn out.
I changed both of mine to Kus/Wema JKS02218 SSS/SSL Length = 27" and would recommend this upgrade.

Thanks Tom,

I bet those work with my boat - if the tank depth is the same.
They will Carter - you need to measure your tank's depth then minus 1 inch and get the right unit. I think you can get them in 1/2" length increments. Check out their web site on length selections.

Installed the second Garmin 8616 today. Have been holding off on the second 8616 to save some cash knowing the radar would need to be replaced as well. Networked the two 8616’s together. Continue to be impressed by Garmin products. Even though their literature leaves a lot to be desired.

Fortunately they have a pretty strong customer service line for help.

Also had Tecnografic make a new back panel in the gray elm color, same as the rocker switch group. They do excellent work.

Battery Charger failed last night… What charger is everyone using?

Any feedback is appreciated…

Does anyone know where to get a new captains navy colored sunscreen for a 2005 DB? I just received one from Gioia Sails (they were the OEM sunscreen manufacturer in 2005), but it is the wrong shade of navy. I included a few pics below showing the difference.

Also, if someone is interested in this new double mesh sunscreen, please let me know. It has snaps included and is ready for install.

Tom
