Went to launch my AJ this past weekend and found the steering was locked up. Disconnected it at the stern to make sure it wasn't the drive and the drive turns easy so must be the cable. Looks like the original cable in there. Only marking I could find was HEAVY DUTY RIDE GUIDE 20 ft 6 in...
Just spotted this post while doing some research on alternate steering systems. My 85 Amberjacks steering is locked up and since its the original, its time for an update since they don't make these cables anymore. Not exactly sure what all types are better than others between the different...

The 383 stroker is also an engine package I thought about before getting the 496 MAG.
The lighter engine may have even performed better but i think I didnt go that route because I dont think it comes with...
I went without the gloss top coat and find its glossy enough without it.
Got 3 years maintenace free out of it and could probably go longer but this spring I'll give it a light sanding and add another coat.

The amberjacks dont have a center windshield support and the front frames are a bit wobly.

Mine is cracked and loose and moves around on me which can be a real PITA when docking.
How are they even attached? Thought there may be a set screw but didnt notice any.
Mine is a single with the trim button on top.

I see what you were talking about now. torquing down to 150# is for bravo1's with shims.
read pages 3B-37 thru 39 and you see that bravo1's with a load ring (crushable washer) instead of shims...
