You are right. The boat is so modified that diligent detective work is required for a safe install. Thanks for the advice and letting me know the original equipment.

More battery help needed please! I was going to install 3 new grp 31 batteries to the port bank and 2 to the starboard bank. I was surprised to see the existing connection had 3 4D on starboard and only 1 4D on port. As you can probably see in the first photo, there are 2 '00' cables on the...

I took both of your advices. I found these Duracell at Sam's for $214 each, exactly 1/4 the price of the 4D I'm replacing. They are rated as 105 ah and CCA 80. It seems to me that 2 of these are as good as one 4D at 1/2 the price. Most of the battery cables installed by the former owner are...

I don't know enough about batteries. Does it mean that you have 2 x 8D for port and 2 x GRP31 for starboard. Would you recommend port with 2 x 4D and starboard with 2 x GRP31?

Thank you very much for the explanation! The former owner of my DB44 installed some heavy duty steel racks for the those 4 4D's. It's impossible to trace the wires of the pair in the far back without removing the ones in the front rack. I'd like to check if wiring changes were made. I like your...

Questions about house battery. I've done the search but still need some help and clarification. My 2008 DB44 has 4D West Marine AGM batteries x 4 on the portside, and gp 31 lead acid x 2 for the thrusters on starboard. The 4D's are over 5 years old and need to be replaced. The boat is docked at...

With my limited electrical knowledge, I'd like to check if this plan is acceptable. Of course, I wouldn't hold anyone responsible if thre are any mishap. To keep my house bank of 4 AGM gp 4D charged, I'd like to tap into the existing charger with my 110v outlet. Here are the specs: Boat...

Good suggestion, Rusty. There are so extras added from the former owner, it's tough to find adequate space for 2 30 amp isolation transformers. I will keep that in mind when I'm ready to convert house batteries to lithium. Flix

BTW, I understand the risk of electrolysis etc for bypassing the isolation transformer. This is a temporary necessity. Once shore power is properly set up, I will use the boat's 50 amp cord. Flix

Glad you think it's OK to install a 110 plug. I could find other doing this. I will use a maintenance with float capability for now and intall the plug later. Flix

The salt neuralizer system sounds great. I try googling this but can't find something with general consensus. Would you mind telling us what system you used. Is it something I can buy off the shelf? Thanks! Flix

Jeff, After this ordeal, I plan the exact same thing. I think it's $300 a piece but much cheaper than what I am going through. I hate to work after long days of fun but it may be small price to pay for more worry-free fun in the future. Flix.

Update on the aftercoolers. They were never serviced since the 44 was made in 2008. After the caps were removed, the first mechanic thought they were 'good enough' for just some outside cleaning without removing the housing or the cores. After the advice from the wonderful members here, I...

Help me with keeping the batteries charged! The saga continues. My aftercoolers are shot. The QSC 8.3 cooler ETA is October! The generator heat exchanger is removed for service. I really need to find some way to charge the batteries. Thank you in advance! As some of you may recall, I won't have...
