Thank you... we'll miss the "go anywhere and get in anywhere" nature of boating on the SB400, but it is what it is... boating will be different... as for your replies, this is gold, so thank you... possibly the most important take away for me in all that is "be flexible"... I may have to add...
Sold my beloved Sea Ray SB400 last summer and now switched to Azimut... HOWEVER, she's in the Great Lakes and I'm on Long Island!... an air draft of almost 20' makes the Western Erie a non-starter, so it's Welland Canal, Oswego, Eastern Erie and Hudson for me (petty much half the great loop!)...
I'm back!... and looking for some help/advice from the Great Lakes members out there... had to give up my search for a Fairline (nothing decent on the market in the US and can't go another summer without a boat!)... so, we have bought a beautiful Azimut 58 Fly... HOWEVER, she's in the Great...
Not sure if you're sorted, yet, but, when I had my SB400 in Long Island, my insurance was around $1000 with Geico (Seaworthy)... HOWEVER when I asked them to quote my new boat it was almost $9K... Progressive was a similar story... not sure they want to be in the boat insurance market?!... my...
Sea Flush system is the way forward:
I use(d) the Sea Flush snorkel to winterize my Cummins 6CTA 8.3's each year... and my Onan generator... and both A/C units... also used the system to run barnacle buster through the engines periodically... it can be used to effectively flush salt water per...
My 2003 SB400 had a Vetus bow thruster retro-fitted... battery was located under the floor of the master stateroom (from memory) with an isolator and controller on the flybridge (all retro-fitted by previous owner without too much drama)... like others have said, seldom needed, but a real “get...
I know many people on this thread have changed out the XMD (me included), but on my (old) boat, inside and outside were "zoned" as Front and Rear, so, before you start removing sofas etc, try accessing the fader control on the unit and moving the sound between Front and Rear... see if that helps?
I read too fast... if one works, but the other doesn't, it rather points to: bad wire, switch, bulb or fitting... it's not a very sophisticated set up (from memory)... good luck.
“They” say the happiest 2 days of a boat owner’s life are the day he buys and the day he sells (but what do "they" know?!). It has never been the case for me. Yesterday marked the end of another chapter, as we said goodbye to our beloved SB400. Sold to the very first, serious, buyer who actually...
In a word, carefully... but to help, use a hair dryer or heat gun on its lowest setting (and increase heat as necessary)... you don’t want to overheat the gelcoat, just loosen the old vinyl so you can peel it off or scrape it off with a plastic spreader... goof off or plain old acetone should...
I replaced my old cockpit fridge for a shiny new Cruise 49 Elegance, Silver, AC/DC, refrigerator with freezer compartment, Silver door, internal mounting system (no flange necessary), customizable door panel, LED interior light. Available from Great Water Marine Systems 14 Arsene Way, Fairhaven...
I agree with what the others have said on this, “amps are amps” and math is absolute... with that said, you’ll find on this thread that we replaced ours with a 1100W Panasonic unit, which works great on shore power and/or generator...
