Has anyone ever mounted a puck "shoot through the hull" transducer in a Sea Ray 260?
I really want to mount a color graph/GPS unit on my boat, but I'm baffled as to where to put the transducer. The only place I can find that might work is in the sump, just behind the bilge pump, forward of the MercCruiser unit.
I've done a dozen of these in bass boats, but I'm not sure if the puck unit will send through the hull thickness, and also if there are air voids in the hull which kills it all.
Really don't want to mount externally, and will not do the drill through the hull, fairing mount.

Thanks for any comments!

Try putting it where you want it, clean that spot first, then weight it down & hook it up. Dont go anywhere, just see if works. That procedure worked for me.

Put the transducer in a ziplock bag full of water and zip tie the bag around the wire. Then you can place the bag on the bilge floor in a few spots and get an idea of how it looks. The water will help allow the transducer to shoot through on a temporary basis. If you can make sure it won't move around, you could even try it while running the boat at speed.

Thank you for the responses, but there is a core issue here. To do what you both suggest, I must first purchase a graph unit, and then see if it will work. Don't want to do that. I'm hoping to find someone that has done it and can tell me where they put the transducer. Guess I could try and borrow a unit, and test that way.

Also, since I have a SmartCraft gauge that reads depth now, there has to be a transducer mounted somewhere. Anyone know the location?

What do you mean core issue? Is the 260 a cored hull? I did not think so.

I have a shoot through on my 330 (P79) and it works great. You just need to find a good location where there is clean water flow at speed. It will work. A side scan chirp will not though.

CreekWood,
What I meant by "Core" was a basic, elemental issue. No reference to hull construction. What type of graph and transducer do you have, and where is it mounted in the sump area.
Much appreciated!!

Older Raymarine. I have an airmar P79 and a B60. They are installed outboard of the inner stringer forward up near the bulkhead. It’s a clean spot on my hull. The centerline is no good on my boat. It’s very thick glass. The p79 was there when I bought it and worked crap. Moved it outboard and it’s great. See below. The B60 is installed in the spot marked L (I replaced the OEM Lowrance transducer that was installed there)
