I live in the Twin Cities Minnesota, and looking for insight/ feedback from owners who have kept their boat in the water to mid to November?

I am in the process of buying a boat, but the survey has been delayed due to getting the generator running. So the boat is sitting in the slip on the St Croix river. Temperatures are dipping to 23 degrees this next week... Motors are closed system ... I have been told that boats have stayed in the water since mid November no problem... Just wondering if any Minnesota boaters can shed some light with their own experience?

Fletch, I'd try to get them to haul out the boat and store it inside somewhere that is heated, then splash it for the sea trial and survey. It's not your fault the survey was postponed so don't let them push you into doing something you're not comfortable with.

It probably would be OK sitting in the water, but I'd make damn sure the surveyor knew the situation and ask him to be your eyes and ears on this.

What model are you looking at?

the good news, for you at least, is that until you close on the deal a cracked block isn’t really your problem. Of course you wouldn’t want that to happen but financially you’d be off the hook.

I’d just have someone lined up to winterize it ASAP once the survey is completed and you take possession.

Side note: we bought ours in February and didn’t get it home until May - you’re in for a long winter! ;) Good luck!

Yeah until you close the deal it's not your problem. Until you get a few days of a really hard freeze it should be fine. Have it hauled and winterized as soon as you close on it. Who's your surveyor?

I'd imagine if they keep the heat running you should be fine. Even in MN the water is likely still around 50 degrees? That should be plenty warm to keep the business parts of the boat safe.

I know folks still in the water here in Michigan...and we have snow forecast for later this week.
