Yes 7.4s can easily produce 380hp but it does it at a different rpm with a different torque curve. The 8.1 will produce the 380 hp at a lower rpm and produce more torque. The 7.4/380 will be called a Horizon. Sea Ray had some issues with the exhaust design on the 7.4s that caused exhaust "reversion" which is when the engine would suck exhaust water back into thru the exhaust valves causing water damage to the engine. It was cured by installed a modified exhaust utilizing a water lift style muffler.

I have 7.4's in my 400DB (380 hp) and feel it performs just fine. Cruise is about 18.5 mph at 3300 RPM.
