leaking engine oil Mercruiser 8.1 Horizon

twin 8.1 mercruiser 375 V drive

I was doing pre-purchase inspection today on Sundancer 340 2005 with twin Mercuiser 8.1 Horizon and starboard engine had some oil on engine mount ( mount toward middle of ER )
any idea where it might be leaking from ? valve cover or something more serious ?
engine was running smooth, with no issues

Hard to tell from the picture. Could have been a sloppy oil change when adding oil or maybe a dropped oil filter with poor cleanup. A mirror and flashlight might provide more information. 8.1s are pretty robust.

Not sure, don’t see much in the pics

my 7.4 leaked on the oil line for the remote oil filter, where the lines went from stainless to rubber, dripped all over, but simple fix

Port or Starboard mount? The oil cooler is on the starboard side below the manifold by the mount. Oil lines are on that side too. Valve cover I would think you would smell burning oil since it would have to run past the exhaust manifolds. If you take the 3 hex screws off the cover you can get a much better look at the top end.
