Hello - The toilet flushes fine, but every few hours I can hear it "chugging", or cycling. It lasts for about 30 seconds.
Is this an indication of a vacuum leak?
what should I check and where?
Thank you for all ideas!

A common problem is the orings on the ball valve leaking. The old style ball valve shaft is plastic, and will break when trying to remove to replace the orings.

Dometic makes a kit with a brass replacement shaft with new orings. It's about an hour job to remove and replace. If you haven't done it, while doing this job I would replace the ball valve seals as well.

It's not always the balls or bills. I chased one for months until I found the inlet nipple to the vacuum tank was slightly collapsed from an over zealous cranking of the hose clamp. It's molded in to our 1998 tanks, and these days it is a drop in fitting to a hole in the tank. I've tried to get Dometic to tell me the size hole I need to drill out so I can replace the nipple, but alas, they are not very interested in my plight. Meanwhile I did reinforce the nipple and it doesn't leak anymore, or if it does, I'm not around.

I have a foot of snow and more coming.

I’d kill to rebuild my boat toilet right now.
That sucks, but surprisingly, we are almost to winter solstice. That’s a milestone that helps me get through the winter, and almost 40% through winter layup for my boat

This is normal per owners manual. Every 3-4 hours or more it will cycle on.

If you’ve replaced the seal, Remove the valve body on side, and clean that plunger. Also, clean the screen located in the housing. I just both of mine this week and they had chunks of calcium deposits. Max flow now on flushes. You can lube the spring cartridge through a couple of holes. Do not remove that.
