Who has cut the cord?

I swear no matter what you try they have you by the balls. I guess now that everyone is schooling and working from home. Its a good time to change our data plan on us and set data limits and start billing for overages. Received this message today from our ISP.

"You've used all of the 1.2 TB (1229 GB) of data included in your Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plan for the current month.

We understand you’re still getting used to the new plan so we’ll be providing a complimentary bill credit for any data overage charges incurred in January and February.

Beginning March 1, 2021, you will receive one additional courtesy month for the year. After that, you'll be charged $10, plus tax, for each 50GB of data you use over 1.2TB, up to a maximum of $100 per month
"
We are Comcast and we went over 2.0TB last month...no complimentary...just a you owe $50. We uped the plan this month to unlimited.. it went from $76 to $106/month... beyond a scam

Sounds like we are all just spending too much time in front of the boob tube! I am strongly considering getting back into reading actual printed books. Down side is its harder to peruse CSR posts while reading a book;) the upside is it uses virtually 0 data.
Cheers

Jeez, I don't like our home ISP but at least we don't have data caps. Seems like Comcast hit bottom and kept digging.

Yikes. We're fortunate in western NY to have a local fiber company (Greenlight Networks)

Fiber to the house - 500Mbps/500Mbps and a static IP for $60 a month. They can't keep up with construction because the demand to get off Spectrum is so high

Yeah, our options are comcast or frontier, which gets terrible reviews in our area.

Well, we dropped Direct TV we first contracted on at $69 per month in 2014. It had now creeped up to $194 per month. Went with YouTubeTV at $70 per month. Has everything we like and then some. Now I have a pile of Direct TV hardware I have to send back. No hardware for YouTubeTV other than the TV. Also I now have a nice $2000 KVH radar arch ornament. Hey, and we can actually watch TV in stormy weather now. So that’s a plus.

Bill, How good is your Wifi at the marina? What about when away from a marina?

Mike
At my home marina the WiFi is just fine for streaming. At our three month winter marina in Ft Pierce same thing. When on hook I use my phone as hot spot. Works fine.

I'm THIS close | to cutting, but the home Wifi sucked. Supposed to have upgraded over winter. We will see.

I’m probably out of my mind but I just jumped back into Direct TV for the Carver. It came with $7500 Intellion HD
satellite antenna and I can’t see just letting it sit there unused. I contacted an independent vendor called Signal Group that only deals with RV and marine accounts. They handle everything except billing so it should be better that dealing with ATT/ DTV. We will see. It’s 70 bucks a month and the wife will be much happier knowing she can watch her programming just like at home. I know that the programs are available thru streaming but I don’t have the patience to train her how to do it.
Stay tuned

When I cut the cord I am going business grade internet. Check it out and see if it is better for you.

I dumped cable probably eight years ago. When we bought our new home here in VA three years ago, Internet and Cable TV weren't an option. It's not available yet... I have to hotspot everything. Of course, we're right where three of the coverage circles almost converge also, but not quite. It's tricky to keep the signals strong enough.
We finally have a fiber cable going in for our area and it should be finished in a few months. I'm looking forward to the internet connection, but I'll never pay for cable tv again.

Xfinity was charging my 82 year old mother $270 for a triple play. Criminal. I cut them back to $66 for internet only and made a few other changes. Saved almost $200 a month.

With the savings she bought herself a LG OLED TV and a new iPhone. She now happily streaming using a Roku.

I picked up a new Samsung TV this weekend and immediately signed up for Youtube TV while still running my Fios triple play. Plan on cancelling that in a few days and going internet only, 200 mb/s for $58 that should save me about $60 a month.

We only watch about 10 channels and are not big movie buffs, so far Youtube TV looks great and I like the customizable guide. Also signed up for the Hulu +live TV demo but it seems a little clunky after the first day and I find myself gravitating back to Youtube TV.

We have 50+ channels of cable for free at the marina but rarely ever turn on the TV. Too busy either working or partying!

Also about the samsung TV. In the past few years they are also able to access a whole bunch of internet channels if you connect the TV to WIFI. I was surprised about how many of these internet digital channels pop up.

Have been testing out the below mobile hotspot and so far so good.Have been searching for a unlimited hotspot with no data caps to use as wifi for work and tv/media streaming onboard. Went with the pink plan based on where we frequent. Cost is $129 per month. Have been stress testing at the marina by streaming YouTube tv from all 3 TVs at the same time. So far so good. I’m currently researching the weboost device to use in conjunction with the nomad for those areas with weak cellular service. We’ve used our Verizon hotspots in past seasons but the 20gb data caps gets used up in no time. https://nomadinternet.com/pages/plans

Just received the below email from Roku. This would really suck as we bought the tv's on the boat specifically because they integrate well with Roku therefore just 1 remote. Not a big fan of having to switch to apple tv but may have to.
if this doesn't come together. Also have about 4 Roku/tv setup s at home.

Dear Roku Customer,

We are sending this email to update you on the possibility that Google may take away your access to the YouTube TV channel on Roku. Recent negotiations with Google to carry YouTube TV have broken down because Roku cannot accept Google’s unfair terms as we believe they could harm our users.

Ensuring a great streaming experience at an exceptional value is the core of our business. We will always stand up for our users, which is why we cannot accept Google's unfair and anticompetitive requirements to manipulate your search results, impact the usage of your data and ultimately cost you more.

While we are deeply disappointed in Google’s decision to use their monopoly power to try and force terms that will directly harm streamers, we remain committed to reaching an agreement with Google that preserves your access to YouTube TV, protects your data and ensures a level playing field for companies to compete. We encourage you to contact Google and urge them to reach an agreement to continue offering YouTube TV on Roku and to follow standard industry practices pledging not to require access to sensitive search data or to manipulate your search results.

Thank you,

Roku

This sucks, are Apple TV boxes next? this is just another reason for me to hate google more. If they shut down Apple boxes I’m looking into starlink for the home and boat the mobile service will be up and running by years end says Elon.

I just saw this too. I have 3 Rokus at home and was going to get at least 1 for the boat. IMO google is being a bitch. I think I’d switch to another service before giving up my Roku.
