Ok so this might be a stupid question.
Cant find anything about it on the Westerbeke site and cant get a hold of any of there customer services.

KEEP IN MIND I HAVE A DIESEL GEN.

The foam on the in side of sound shield has gone bad. I am thinking it needs to be fire retardant.
What do you all think?

This is not a direct answer to your question, but something to think about. I did a little research when I was running my Westerbeke for hours on end last year. I do not have the sound shield and I don't believe Westerbeke offers one anymore for my model. I found an old thread here on CSR that suggested that the best way to dramatically reduce the noise of your generator was not with a sound shield (or the foam), but with a better muffler/exhaust. I believe Sea Ray used a single stage muffler/exhaust as original equipment. You might want to look into a dual stage exhaust if you are really looking to quite it down. Here is a link to Centek's products: https://www.centekmarine.com/product-category/generator-exhaust/

For any of you looking for the replacement foam I finally got a hold of westerbeke .
The part number is 030904 and you order it by the sq foot.

Adding to what @Shoyrtt said, you should also look at the isolation mounts as a possible source of noise and vibration. @dtfeld has a nice project thread about swapping his and I plan to do the same on our boat at some point. I suspect the 18+ year old rubber has seen better days and outlived its useful life.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

My issue isnt about noise my generator is actually very quiet I just wanted to replace the foam inside the sound shield as the original form has deteriorated over age.
