410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Understand you are going in on the 16th. I put my props back on last week, not going in until 30th. Interested how your work out and new RPM range and speed. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Turkanon

first run today. We turned 2860/2840 WOT. nearly full fuel, no water, me alone on board. 1 foot chop and 10 knot wind Very happy with that result, I just have to fix a slightly high EGT on the starboard side, it’s running around 900 and I’d like to see 850 or below

Any further progress on your hardtop? Did I miss something? That’s the one thing I’d like on my boat. Good luck!

Yes, still at it. Waiting on the color matched gel coat for the final coats. I moved the post to “1997 Sundance home made hardtop”. I felt it would be easier to get feedback on my questions as they arise. Thank you for the interest. At this point it is what keeps me going.

Out of left field here, maybe, but does anyone know how much 5/16" chain can fit in the anchor locker? I've got a 550' drum. I feel sure that 200' would fit, but does anyone have that or more in there? (Yes, I'll have 20' or so of rope to cut off in an emergency, and yes, I have a 30' rope bridle, and yes, I have a 44lbs Rocna, and yes, my shackle has a WLL that actually matches the chain)

I'd wager a lot of internet bucks that we could get 2,000' in there if we really wanted to. Maybe 3,000ft? She's gonna have a hulluva pitch forward when we get done fillin' her up I'm afraid :)

Here's what 200' looks like. Barely makes a dent in the locker capacity.

Perfect. Thanks, Stee!

Did the deed on the water heater today. I tried like hell to get my exhaust log off but decided to muscle the old and new underneath instead. Overall the project was a solid 4 hours of effort. I'd give the discomfort/pain level a 6. It gets a little tight sitting behind that engine. Nothing a little whiskey won't resolve, however.

If any of you folks end up needing to do this the Kuuma 11 gallon is nearly a drop-in replacement for the Atwood 10.5. Plumbing matches right up, electrical also. The Kuuma is slightly deeper so the mounting holes will be new. Otherwise a pretty smooth setup. Of course this review is predicated on the new unit working. I didn't have enough water left in my tank to test for leaks :):)

very nice! Shiny :)

Dang that thing is clean! Very nice...

thanks! We went for the “maiden voyage” yesterday after the little ceremony and still can’t believe how perfect this boat is. Water surface temp was 49* and air temp was 55* and wind off the water was chilly. We left the top up, set the autopilot and throttles to 1200 RPM, and just enjoyed the ride while the sun heated us up under the glass.

It was a 1’-2’ chop and you just don’t feel a thing while putting along in these boats

Anyone ever weigh their boat fully or near fully loaded? I’m curious where these fall, I think the dry weight is published at 23k and is the gas engine version so I’m wondering what real world with full fuel comes in at. I’m guessing the diesel version with full tanks and some gear is close to 30k?

@my3sons I think you said you weighed your 420DB and it was way over the spec sheet, right?

Mine weighed 28500 in the sling after the Sea trial.. That was 1/2 fuel 1/2 water...so full fuel/water, with nothing else would be at least 30k

Strecker,

Best of luck with Hard To Get - She is a beauty!

I own my 410da for over 12 years now and still love her! She has taken us to amazing places in the Northeast, as well as 2 trips from NY to Florida. Any thing the ocean, inlets, locks, rivers and bays have thrown at her, she has handled like a champ!

I’ve never had it in the slings with all of our stuff on it, but the spec sheet says 22000# dry weight, lol.
Spring and fall haul out with full fuel and not much else beside the things that never come off the boat shows right around 33,000.
Probably around 35k in cruise mode.

Thought so! Amazing how low the factory spec is. Maybe it’s without the engines? ;).

For anyone keeping score at home I’m still after a freshwater leak that accumulates water in my center cabin bilge. It starts under the aft cabin and fills enough to come into the emergency center bilge area

I am certain it’s a freshwater leak as we didn’t have water for a week and it was bone dry. Once I was on city water i had a couple gallons in that bilge within a few hours

I have literally put eyes on every hose and connection on the boat I can without completely disassembling cabinets.

it accumulates faster on city water than pump, and the pump doesn’t cycle that I’ve heard.

I am to the point of disconnecting one line at a time and seeing what leaks. Of course the first fitting I pulled off the main trunk/manifold cracked so I ordered 20 replacements.

any other words of wisdom? The water is cold, so I think it’s the cold side. I chased the entire anchor locker run and that’s dry, faucet connections are dry, toilets are dry, etc. I’m thinking it’s a kink or crack in a hose maybe somewhere under the cabin steps? The access hatches in the aft cabin are also dry

Doesn't the 410 have the fresh water tank under the seating in that back area like the 400? If so it is an "L" shaped tank and when that tank is filled full it's top bulges upward significantly. That bulge stresses the inside corner of the "L" and they crack right there.
Another possibility is a water line leak behind the refer; there is a cable way under the refer right into that aft sump area.
