Can anyone give advice on how to remove a Quicksilver QS 8.0 diesel generator from a 1989 440 aft cabin? My needs an overhaul. Location is the challenge…the greater sits forward of the port engine with no direct vertical access from the salon hatch. Remove it in pieces? Thanks.

I would be willing to bet that you will need to remove it in pieces. I've got a 21 KW on my Aft Cabin 506 and am not looking forward to removing it EVER! Ill need to take it out one screw and bolt at a time:mad:.
If it will slide between the engines, can you make a heavy plywood floor and push it under the hatch then use a portable a frame to hoist it to the deck? Then your issue will be how to get it from the salon to the aft deck and then off the boat. Best bet will to at least separate the engine from the generator and manhandle each.
Stock up on Motrin 800mgs

Yep, I think you are spot on. I’m going to take my time removing it piecemeal, and as you suggest, try to slide the heavy bits to the salon hatch, where I can cherry-pick them up to the salon level. At least at that point I can devise a plan to heft it up the stairs to the aft deck, and then fork lift it over the transom. I have my stock of Motrin!!! Thanks!
