I don't often see a "cool mod" (nod to Gary) but this seemed pretty cool. If you have one of the older Good Windlass's this is awesome, but it also works with other brands. It's a wireless remote to operate the windlass. You can be at the bow or wherever and adjust your anchor rode. For $50 it adds "bow" controls for those with Good windlass's that had to adjust at the helm.

I just picked up a SIDE POWER remote.

Has the capacity to handle:

  • windlass
  • bow thruster
  • stern thruster
  • cablemaster

Once I get it wired in I'll put it on a lanyard around my neck.

I have always single handled.

65 years old now.

This will be important to assist with tying up at a dock when fighting a blow as I age.

BEST !

It was this inexpensive technology that made me wonder why Dock Mate and Yacht Master get away with charging 10 to 12 grand for their systems and inspired me to develop my off the shelf remote helm for the 44 for 5% of the cost. All of these electric components use relays to control the loads to them as such paralleling a commercially available wireless switch makes wireless remote control virtual child's play. It really is nice to be able to make adjustments and maneuvers away from the helm and not worry about the stress of trying to explain what you want done to a novice crew member or tentative spouse.

TENTATIVE SPOUSE..............

LOVE IT!

I wonder if they are all the same frequency. I can see my dock neighbors messing with each other like they do with the remote spotlights! Ha!

They operate on 2.3 GHTZ but use broad spectrum technology similar to garage door systems to avoid that. The 2.3 GHTZ also is not affected by other marine electronics supposedly.

There's two frequency bands in the industrial world for remote controls - 2.4 GHz and 49 MHz.
The 2.4GHz devices which most of these types are, have 4.2 billion address code possibilities so it's unlikely someone will step on ya. The transmitter continuously "pings" the receiver making sure they are secure and connected. @Carpediem44DB has worked with these things for a while now and I'd trust what he says about the technology.
We have used Microtronics devices in the past with good cost effective results.

My dinghy lift remote control is made by Tele Radio (Lynx) and is 2.4GHZ...

Only $49? It can't be for a boat.
Not needed for me though. I am either going to be at the helm with the switch, or on the bow with the foot switches. But a neat idea for sure.

Thanks for the correction Tom, 2.4 GHZ:) I initially used a 400 MHZ system in prototyping and the Navionics/ radar or something caused the systm to do all sorts of odd stuff, We went to the 2.4GHZ and have never had a glitch.
When I sold the 44 I had so many remotes to keep track of, multiple TV/Satellite remotes, Raymarine auto pilot hand held remote, My Co-Pilot remote helm, my dinghy davit winch remote fob and my Salt Away injection remote! It was getting pretty ridiculous. Had I kept the boat I was going to integrate the windlass, davit, engine flush and cable master into a single remote but sold it before I got the chance. I am currently considering remoting the current boat's Cable master and windlass systems, I kind of abandoned installing a davit for now due to our current use.

Remotes - Ha
My neighbor's boat behind me and another several slips down were having issues with their Bose Lifestyle systems being on when they arrive to their boats with music or other things on and playing. As we discussed it I pulled my Bose remote out and found out it operated both their systems. It was quite a dock mystery for months until that discussion....
All three of us were on the same "House Code"... What are the odds as it is a permutation of, I think, 9.
