We will be spending about 100 days in the North Channel and part of Georgian Bay. Our first year was 1963 and it was a period of low water. Maybe not this low but I don't expect to have problems. We will have to see how the lakes respond to the good snow we have had this winter but don't expect...
Maybe I am old and it tempers my thoughts but I would like to inject a word of caution here. The question was day trips and weekend trips.
Like flying, a lot of boating accidents happen when someone leaves for a distant place on Friday evening's good weather and runs into trouble returning...
Our cat loves the boat. He has one bad habit. He likes to chew on fish line, the one attached to the pole. I lost a nice fish and an expensive lure because of him. I have to check it each time I go out now.
But he's worth it.

Wow. This boat was much newer than that. Not sure but likely 90's, maybe late 80's.
Lots of Phantoms.
He belonged to the Great Lakes Cruising Club. Maybe I can find someone who is a member and I can look up their member list.
In any event it is pretty obvious I am not going to see him again.
You...
She is a 40' Sea Ray. Home port on Lake Michigan but don't recall the town.
Can't recall the owners names either but they are an older couple (like me) that we met every year in the North Channel. Really enjoyed them but one year they didn't come and of course haven't heard from them again. That...
I wondered if you would notice. I see a lot of Sea Rays in the North Channel. Sea Ray started in a little town not far from where I lived in Michigan. Michigan is Sea Ray country for sure.
What really drew me to this site is the large amount of boaters that boat where I do.

Here is a link to another site I posted several pictures of last years season in the area.

Its a small but growing site geared towards Canadian boaters. All are welcome. Pictures are easy to post there without...
Thanks. I knew there were a few updates from 1966. Such a nice area to boat.
I drive through there once in a while. I'll pay more attention.

Direct works for me. We have an in motion dish on the boat. Living on the hook for about 100 straight days each year in a pretty remote area, it is our only means of knowing what is happening in the world.
We travel at hull speeds most of the time and have a tv on the bridge. It helps on those...
Just read this thread again. The marina at Houghton was mentioned. We were at the dedication of the marina near the bridge when we made the trip up from Saginaw Bay. It was the 4th of July 1966 as I recall. It was a city or at least government marina. I don't know if there are more now. I...
Lots of info. on this engine here. http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/
Scroll down a bit and you will find a discussion about mileage. What they are reporting is about what the Ford dealer told me a couple of days ago.
A little disappointing when you compare it to the 7.3.
Doug
Just wondering why some of you are so obsessed with Bayliner owners. I know your jealous you spent a lot more for a boat that does nothing more than a Bay but honestly we don't hold that against you. It wouldn't even be noticed if you didn't keep bringing it up. Why can't you just talk about our...
Ken the post removed was on the fiberglass repair forum.
Fwebester, I for one am not discussing that at all. And only those blowing smoke are blaming Doug (Go Aweigh) for what happened to Wayne.
They know why.
Wayne is Wayne, like him or not but some are using this as a reason to bash people...
There was only one person from BOC that was bugging Wayne and Wayne responded like Wayne does. He enjoyed it.
Those of you who have such short memories, let me tell you a story.
I am here again because of Wayne. I didn't want to go through all the Bayliner bashing but Wayne told me that was...
For those with larger but still trailerable boats, you can avoid the overwidth problems in Canada by trailering to the UP of Michigan.
Detour has a good launch ramp but you must find a place to park your truck and trailer. Private storage is available but you have to ask.
A good place is Sault...
You might do a Google search for Boat Trailer repair and the city near your boat.
I took a shot at Sandusky and came up with this.

Should be a fun trip. Weather is the key. In Michigan there is a harbor of refuge no more than 50 miles apart so you are within 25 miles of one. Just duck in if weather changes.
Yes charts and a compass that is accurate. GPS very helpful but charts and a compass never fail.
Doug
If you have never been there I can say with complete confidence you will enjoy it.
If you have been there, you will enjoy it even more.
Our first trip was in 1963 and I am not tired of it yet.
Doug
Thanks for filling me in. A big part of my life was spent on those waters.
If you are ever on Big Charity, look around the old light house for round holes in the stone there. There used to be hard round black rock in those holes. Like a cannon ball. I don't know what they were but I gave one to...
