The big old 80's 340 owners thread

I have gotten great advice on this thread and I need some more. 1989 340 EC and I recently had to remove and have rebuilt the port motor. Just put it back in, got it timed, it’s running great. The mechanic put a “break in” oil that I’m supposed to use for about 10 hours then change the oil. I’m...

Does anyone have experience with chalk paint? After a little research it seems like a great alternative to replacing the fabric, which is very expensive. The process is easy and seems to color the fabric rather well. Let me know your thoughts.

Does anyone have info on a fabric paint or dye for the inside cabin walls. My 1987 340 EC has years of stains and discoloring that I would like to go over and make look better. Or any other ideas on how to make it look better?

NorCal, I am happy to report that I took my boat out the water the week after Thanksgiving and there were plenty of barnacles all over the boat and running gear. I spent 3 days grinding, pressure washing and preparing the bottom. Then I put 2 coats of anti-fouling on the bottom and dropped it...

NorCal thanks for the info. I will take pics and post when I have the boat hauled out at the end of November so I can get your opinion. Cheers

NorCal, thanks for your response and concern. Its good to know someone near me that can give valuable advice. 1. I did not have the boat surveyed by a marine surveyor. I did take it on a sea trial and it performed great at that time. The boat came from the Gulfport, MS area and had...

Yea, that looks perfectly clean for just after a haul out. I live in New Orleans so I am in Lake Pontchartrain so the water is brackish (more salt) so barnacles grow pretty fast. When I feel the bottom I feel lots of barnacles. I don't see any on your boat. I just did not think it could...

Yea I see that pink nightmare, mine was green! When I figure out how to post pics Ill post one of the floor I'm working on. I was thinking the same thing about the trannys. How could it be both though at the same time? When I read up about checking the levels in the trannys I get mixed info...

Thanks for the welcome. Could growth do that? When I went in the water I felt around the hull and I do feel barnacles but its not a solid layer of them. I can feel smooth hull also in between. It makes sense if it is growth though because nothing else has changed. I do plan to do a bottom...

    1987 340 EC

Proud new owner of a 1987 340 EC. First big, twin screw boat. Bought the boat in March, brought it home (about 50 miles) no problem. Ripped out the 1980's carpet and have been installing new lonseal flooring and it looks great. I went to take the boat out for the first time in a few months (I do...
