MX MPI Horizon 6.2 throttle body clean

Nice, glad to hear it. Sierra part works fine - it's marine application - just not rando thing from Autozone :)

Phew! Happy season to you, and adding my +1 to what Scott said.

MX MPI Horizon 6.2 throttle body clean

You gotta use an OEM or equivalent IAC; the cheapo automotive ones don't work the same way and aren't compatible in practice even though they look the same. Can you borrow a diagnostic tool (Rinda Diacom) to figure out exactly what sensor it thinks is bad? Have you got another thread about your...

    1962 Sea Ray Cruiser

Brochures available here: https://www.searay.com/us/en/owners.html - I think/guess that you're looking at an 808 with an aftermarket hardtop on it. I couldn't find anything in 1961-1963 that looked like yours. You will likely get more info here: http://www.fiberglassics.com/ where they are...

    Rusty droplets inside manifolds/spacers

If I'm not mistaken, pic 1 (img_7006) shows a little shiny pool of water in the exhaust manifold? This is probably down to exhaust reversion, the cam overlap allows for the exhaust and intake valves to be open simultaneously for part of the cycle and that causes the exhaust to be drawn back...

Unsticking tapered cone seacocks - for older Sea Rays

My '81 Merritt Island boat, a 310 Vanguard, was fitted with Wilcox-Crittenden tapered cone seacocks for the engine raw water intake. It's very likely that factory used those seacocks for a number of years. They can stick solid, look incredibly crusty, and make you think about replacing them. But...

    Bilge b dry

Great discussion here: http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/diy-dry-bilge-system.111546/page-4#post-1400639 I made a DIY one last season but didn't really document it helpfully. Anyway it's fairly easy and cheap as these projects go, though I encountered major difficulties tuning it to...

    Fixed it till it broke

I'd call that sensible preventive maintenance. All of those items at 20yrs old are due for a replacement even if the hours don't suggest it. If it makes you feel better about forgetting to tighten bolts, I ended up doing a full top-end rebuild on my engines last season while in the water. Not a...

Thanks for the insights - interesting and I think answers it.

Boat damaged on the hard, who pays?

There was a vicious nor'easter in my area last night. I went down to the marina today and a couple of boats had been blown off their blocks - a very new and expensive 50' sailboat had obviously been blown sideways off its blocks into a mid '00s Tiara, causing extensive damage to the powerboat...

    Snakes on board!

Holy shit. Never again will I be jealous of freshwater boaters' easy maintenance. That said... I found rodent paw prints and a small puddle of stinky piss in my cockpit a couple of seasons ago. Installed a motion-activated light and never saw any further signs since; a snake would also have...

    Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

dwna1a, following along here as I think I have to do this to my own boat. What's the name of the backing board material you mentioned a few posts up?

    Seacock mfr

Interesting gents, thanks! I'd thought Groco at first too but their label stamps are giant and obvious, and their units all have a T piece for an adjustment handle. The WCs really look like what I have. Slotted bar for the handle, dog washer, flange nut, jam nut. "Forked" flange base. I think...

    Seacock mfr

Hi, does anyone know what brand of seacock Sea Ray fitted to their Merritt Island-built boats in the early 1980s? Mine has what appear to be very good quality bronze tapered cone seacocks with no maker's mark on them. All I know for sure is they're not Spartan, since they have no stop on the dog...

Recommendations for FREE on-line nautical mapping tools... Like Google Maps

God only knows. It actually says "not for navigation" on the lower left. But the OP wanted something free to (in his words) "play and fantasize" so as long as that's all it is, I'm not sure it matters. (For the record I pay for Navionics on the boat and my phone, but I do some preliminary...

Sanding/varnishing Q - seeking advice from old hands

Thanks guys. Not a chance I can remove the trim unfortunately. That would be ideal though. Sounds like I'll be sanding under wrap so I can do that at leisure, then pop the wrap off early on a nice calm day, clean up the dust, and get a coat or two on. Yeah just the Cetol Marine Light - it made...

Sanding/varnishing Q - seeking advice from old hands

My boat is on the hard outside under shrink-wrap. I can access through a door I made. This year I have to sand and finish a lot of teak trim - the gunwale cap around the cockpit, all the companionway trim, the foredeck rails, and the pulpit. I'm going to sand and Cetol it, I don't have time for...
