ALNAV, RBB, thank you both for responding. Seems enough ventilation can be had in the salon (nice), and I’ll be doing coastal cruising in S. California so planning on diesels. Now I just need to find a well cared for boat within reasonable distance. Not that easy apparently.
Hello everyone, I’m looking for a diesel 390/40MY. Any leads other than what can be found on YachtWorld will be much appreciated. I’m in S. California.
Does the model have opening windows in the salon for cross ventilation?
Thank you.
Thanks for posting the parts list invoice. That could come in very handy. 30 hours labor for one, wow. Yes $30K allowance off the purchase price makes sense for changing heads on both engines.
I was right behind a 390 MY out on the ocean today in 4’ seas and it seemed to do quite good. Much...
Thanks for the info on the part number. Tony over at SeaBoard lists the new cylinder head as part 3931925. I believe both refer to the new/latest version of the cylinder heads.
I’m still searching for my boat and will make sure the engine gets a good looking over. Also heard to prop it as per...
I did see them but I’m in California, so a little worried about transporting them out here. I know the top has to come off and possibly other stuff for road transport. Other option is by boat to Mexico and then drive it by water the rest of the way to LA. Not many of them on the west coast...

Al, thank you for your detailed reply. Much appreciated and will take into consideration. My preference would be a 07/08 40 MY (QSB, 2 single seats and a sofa).
Was the model years of the 40MY (not the 390MY) from 2006-2007, or was there a 2008 as well?
Was the Cummins QSB engine introduced with the 40, as opposed to the 480CE in the 390?
Thank you.
Thanks for your reply Al. I like the QSB engine as you have a lot better that the 480CE. I think they started offering those in 2006 or 2007. Right now the seller wants about $220.000 which I think is high given the risk about the engines.
i have the opportunity to buy a 2003 390MY with Cummins 480 CE diesel. I’m aware of the dropped valve problem with this engine when run hard. It has 350 hrs total and kept in salt water since 2003. Very low hours over 18 years so is that a concern and what could go wrong. I will off cause have a...
Thanks rlynch3 and Rgdonson54. I figured wind could be a challenge. I had forgotten about the Dropped Valve issue with the 480-CE so thanks for pointing that out. Printed out the article from the SBMAR website. Now I just need a boat to go with it haha.
Hello, this is my first post. I hope to upgrade from a 30’ Cutwater to a SR 390/40 MY as soon as I find one, preferably in California so I don’t need to ship it by land. I single hand the 30’ quite often. Does anyone here have experience single hand the MY? What procedure do you use to dock and...
