Lake Michigan Resident and Never Owned A Boat. Whats A Good Length To Start Out

Food advice Golfman. I’m seeing a few boats in Sturgeon Bay pop up on Boat Trader & Yacht World. Nothing in Chicago so far or around “The Bend”. Grand Haven has revealed a few. I have my filters set to 2003+ with minimum of 34’. I think the 330,340,350 or 360 will be a good start.

Lake Michigan Resident and Never Owned A Boat. Whats A Good Length To Start Out

I am messaging an owner of a 2002 340 and boat is still in water in upper Chesapeake Bay. Claims the marina does some bubbling method ( i guess to reduce ice forming ).

Lake Michigan Resident and Never Owned A Boat. Whats A Good Length To Start Out

Hey Pirate Lady, I don’t own a boat, hence, my original post for size recommendations. But, when I do purchase, I intend to explore much of Lake Michigan’s shoreline and will use the anchor, generator, galley, berth & head. I just moved here last July only having previous boating experience as...

Perfect migration from mechanical question to lifestyle discussion. I would never have thought to ask questions about bathroom habits.

Great advice ttmott. Plus i can add some fishing time in. I know my SUV can haul 7,700 lbs. so it’s possible i can trailer a 20’er and store in our barn.

Lake Michigan Resident and Never Owned A Boat. Whats A Good Length To Start Out

Thank’s Golfman. We desire to spend multiple nights aboard on cruises up and down the coast. I’m a fairly large guy so space is somewhat important (i.e. head / shower, galley, berth, etc.). Ocassionally, we would have guests overnight, but generally, just for social settings.

I live near South Haven & Saugatuck Marina’s. Space is available at each. Since I have never owned / operated a boat is there a best starter size for me ?

Fresh Water (Lake Michigan) Mercruisers or Diesels

Thx Stee6043. If money and time were no object for us a trawler would be in the line-up. I’ve long admired them. BUT, I like speed. Afterall, I drive Porsches . I know fuel costs can be brutal with boating, so your remarks are well received and I’m going to use the winter months to research more.

Fresh Water (Lake Michigan) Mercruisers or Diesels

I am trying to narrow down my choices for a SR Express Cruiser in the 36-40’ range. Ultimately, my wife & I may enjoy exploring longer range trips from SW Michigan (Superior, Huron, Chicago, etc.). I’m seeking opinions about which type of engines would be best.
