Just boat this boat ‘01 SR 182 Mercrusier 4.3 Alpha One Gen 2. I am very OCD and would say this boat is in mint condition from top to bottom not only for a ‘01 model but probably better than most ‘21 models. Has 700 hours on it. No problems yet but just got it few days ago. So is 700 hours anything to be scared of if it has been maintained well. I have read different things but just looking for some opinions. What is a rough numbers one could expect to get out of these motors. Thanks

My 1999 185 has 750hrs on it, mainly maintenance items and things you might expect on a 22yr old engine, but nothing major. I too am pretty particular about my boat. If maintained several thousand hours is not a problem for a gasoline engine. I had a Correct Craft ski boat that had over 2000 hours on it, still running fine. Usually the death of a marine engine is a failure in the exhaust risers / manifolds.
I know a marine engine is run differently, but think about how many hours a car with say 50k miles has - say an average speed of 40mph - that’s 1250hrs!
