Boating and weather on the Chesapeake Bay can always be an adventure. So last May, when my wife asked me “what do you want for your Birthday”, I told her the Sirius weather option module for my Ray Marine C80. So she called MM, and had it bought and installed, and has is come in handy.
Last weekend we were going out on Sunday. The weather was calling for scattered but severe thunderstorms. From Gunpowder Cove it is a very short run to Maxwell Point for some swimming, but in watching the weather on the C80, the storms were on tracking down the western side of the bay. I decided to go the Hart Miller and anchor there. While over there I watched as the storms got closer, but the track remained the same, we were OK. Gunpowder and Maxwell were getting hammered, heavy rain, lighting, and even some hail. All we got a Hart Miller was some light chop, and a great day we had.
Having this “heads up” type of warning has made our boating days this summer on several occasions.
