There are two ceiling mounted interior lights in the cabin of my 1998 290. Each fixture has two bulbs, a small one for 12v and a larger one with a medium screw base that is rated for 110v. I can get the 12v bulbs to light by using the switch in the galley. However, I can't seem to get the 110v bulbs to come on. There is a double switch just inside the companion way, with one switch for the cabin courtesy lights and the other that appears to do nothing, thus suspect it is for the 110v lights? I have turned on all the 110v panel switches but still no lights. Is there a fuse or breaker hidden someplace for these 110v lights? (I tested the bulbs and they are good.)

"In the dark at the dock!"

My previous boat 1989 300 had a fixture in the galley with the same combo of bulbs (12v & 120v) the 120v didn't work and I went out to find and replace them.... Wow, $12 a piece for those little babies... I suspect the price is why the owner before me never replaced them. Anyway, bottom line is they maybe just burned out.....?(ok, sorry I now see you already tested them)

Walz...are they round lights in the ceiling? I have on on each side of my boat. How did you get them open? I have the same light burned out, but am not sure how to get the fixture open.

I just rotate the cover about a 1/3 turn and they come loose. There are little indentions on the rim that align with openings in the rim of the fixture.

I'm thinking about taking the whole fixture out and replacing the AC sockets with standard candelabra base which is available anyplace.

I also assume these fixtures serve as access to the wipers?

On my 260 - the gold had tarnished and I had used tarn-ex to get the tarnish off and then I waxed them and they looked great for quite some time. But sounds like you have a bad socket or bad connection. Time to get out the multi-meter.

Try a sewing machine shop. West Marine carries them, but they are ridiculously expensive. I found some from a sewing machine that worked. Don't tell my wife and I have NO idea how much they were!

The 3 switches in the galley control the exhaust fan, the O/H 110v + 12v lighting and the 12v O/H only lighting. I know the middle switch is for the 110v/12v lights. The 2 switches by the step control the cabin courtesy lights and the lower cockpit lights. In our experience, the battery switches must be on for the 110v/12v lights to work. We stay plugged into shorepower but if there is a dead or low battery condition then the 110v lights won't come on. (just had to buy 2 new batteries last week).May be just a quirk in our boat.
