Hi all

My father is contemplating buying either a sundancer 240 (2000) with a 8 month old new 5.7 engine fitted or a Regal 2460 commodore (2000).

So looking for any help that anyone could give me in either what to go for or any faults i should look for on the sundancer.

He will mainly be sailing in the firth of clyde (scotland) never more than a couple of miles off shore and staying on-board with the grand kids (moored at the marina)

I owned 2001 240DA for about 4+ years. It was a great boat that served very well. It had very good design (compared to the newer model) and handled seas great. I took it out in the ocean in the small craft advisory and felt very comfortable in the way she handled the conditions (5-6-7 footers). I don't know of any specific issues with the model to look for. So, if you're planning to have reputable surveyor to do the official inspection, you should be fine. As for the running gear, the hull surveyor should make recommendations if you need the machainc to do any extra inspections.

Do oil samples and coolant (if it's a FWC engine).

I don't have any experiense with Regals, so I'm no help there.

Good luck.

I owned a 2000 240 dancer. I never had any issues with it, I second the nicer cockpit in that era. My boat had the 5.0, 220 hp, which was OK, but when fully loaded, he will appreciate the 5.7. I took it out on Lake Superior a few times, and it handled that lake just fine.
