Blurry Lines

I recently purchased a 1998 215 Express Cruiser and im going to replace the batteries since they are both from 2007 just as CYA. They are just to old. I believe one battery should be Deep Cycle and one should be starting correct? How would I tell if the number 1 battery should be deep cycle or the start battery? Number 2 will be easy once I know that. What group size battery came stock from the factory. Currently the prior owner has a group 29 starting on the starboard side and a 24 starting on the port side. This is just the wrong batteries in my opinion. My guess factory was a group 27? Hopefully an 215 owner will chime in.
