My husband has been telling me how wonderful this site is and how helpful you all are, so here goes. We have a 2003 280 Sundancer. I want to get a flag pole that will fit on the railing above the bow pulpit for my husband for his birthday. Our local Marine Max dealer said that Sea Ray does not make one. I am wondering if there is another place to go to find one. Please email me at candyrayl@gmail.com. Thanks so much!

What flag do you intend to fly from this position? The American flag is not apropriate in that location. You should only fly your clubs burgee on the bow. Info only, good luck. Check West Marine or Overtons

Do you know the outside diameter of the bow rail?

I am attempting to find one for my boat as well. I have confirmed the size of my bowrail with SeaRay as being 7/8" O.D.

I purchased a bracket & staff from West Marine ($42) that is suppose to fit 7/8" to 1" rail. However, when I placed it on mine it was either too small (when used with the plastic bushing for 7/8" rail) or too large (when used w/o the bushing for 1" rail). I have been communicating with the buying staff at WM to see if I have an irregular size rail (unlikely) or if they have a incorrectly sized batch of brackets. I have sent them pictures and measurements and hope to have an answer next week.

Another option is this company.

Good luck!

PS Make sure you get him a CSR burgee as well if he doesn't already have one! :smt038

Thank you for the heads up re: Old Glory on the bow - I didn't know that was improper.

Should I assume that one could only fly the American Flag from a stern-mounted flag pole?

Thanks,
Tim

I bought this from west marine. $40 something bucks. works great. DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP PLASTIC ONE!!! not worth it. You can buy this AWESOME CSR burgee through BOE. I believe you can mount the same pole on the transom locker bar. Can't say for sure because i haven't tried it.

On the bow, you have to mount it off center do to the bend in the rail

The original swiveler is the best...The owner of the company was a SeaRay owner last time I spoke to him. I wouldn't buy anything else. Mike

Last sping I bought the parts from West Marine to fly the ensign (US flag) from the transom. The rail-mounted staff was not an option for me, because it is limited in the size of flag to smaller than the recommended 1" of fly (length) per 1' of boat length. I wanted to display a 20"x30" ensign.

West offers top-mount and flush-mount sockets, both vertical and angled. I chose the flush-mount angled socket (part #2546331) with the matching teak flagstaff; they also offer stainless steel flag staffs.

I used a spade bit to drill the angled hole into the top of the transom, finishing off the hole with a hand-held coarse file. The socket has a hole in the bottom to allow water to drain; this isn't a problem in my case because it drains directly into the transom locker, which in turn drains overboard and not into the bilge.

I only fly the ensign when we are cruising slowly; I have a crew member remove the ensign and its staff altogether before we go to plane; one of my buddies had a cover made from spare Sunbrella fabric and rolls his ensign around the staff and covers it when he's boating at speed.
