Hello all-
I'm hoping someone may be able to give me an idea of what is happening with my 2005 Sundancer 340 with 8.1 L Horizons in it. Originally the boat was stalling after extended idle (harbor cruising) and we would have to let it sit, and then it would start up again run for a bit and then die. The Sea ray dealer came out and diagnosed it as the cool fuel water jackets were clogged with salt causing the fuel pumps to shut off due to overheating at idle. The port motor was running much better than starboard, and dying much less frequently, but they went ahead and replaced both cool fuels under warranty. At the same time I had the impellers on both motors done. Once the mechanic was done he fired up the motors to test them out and check for leaks etc. When he did this the port motor ran horribly all of a sudden. Really rough misfiring etc. The mechanic was blown away and said nothing he just did should cause that. Since then they have not been able to fix it. We have replaced spark plugs, plug wires, IAC, swapped all the relays, the ecm, and replaced the new cool fuel thinking the new part may have been faulty. Compression tested each cylinder and all checked out, checked for vaccum leaks and even checked all the grounds with a max reading of .002 ohms. (most were 0.000) the mechanic said that was normal. The last thing that has been done is they think the fuel injectors someohow went bad all of a sudden during this process. They did an injector flush yesterday, and it didnt improve hardly at all. The motor will idle rough. rev ok and seem ok at high rpm at the dock but when we take it out under load it wont do better than 2400 rpm and smells like fuel badly. This has the smartcraft system on it so timing is controlled and adjusted by the computer and we know that isnt it bevcause when we swap the computer from port to starboard the starboard motor runs great still. crazy thing is it was the one running bad before. Last thing they did was an injector test on the motor and found that injectors #2 and #6 were about 3.5 PSI different than the rest. They are thinking replacing those will be the solution. Any thoughts on what else it might be if its not the injectors? They have been working on the boat for a month now and can't figure it out . The only other thing I can think of that was done in between is we added a stero amplifier with a base tube 2- 12v receptacles, and some LED lights. i don't see how any of that would have any effect but who knows at this point.
Thanks
