Hi,
I'm adding some of those metal hooks to the back wall of the transom locker in my 310 DA.
I'm mildly nervous about drilling into the fiberglass, and advice or opinions on what size screws to use? Don't want to use skimpy screws; the lines we're hanging will be wet... but don't want to come through into the cockpit...,
Thanks,
Keith

Is there anything else already screwed into the forward wall of the locker? If so, just back one out and measure.

Is there a cushion on the other side of where you will be screwing (hmmm... that may not have been said right :smt101)? If there's a cushion, it will give a margin of era. Drill through, slowly. But it's probably only going to be about a 1/2". Look at your drill bit when you pull it out - the fiberglass in the bit's threads will give you an indication of thickness. Use a screw that will extend no more than 1/4" to 1/2" past the hole (but it does need to extend some to get a good bite). If the fiberglass is only about 1/4" (which is likely) I wouldn't use screws.

If there's no cushion or the fiberglass is only 1/4", then get cut a strip of wood and use 3M 5200 to attach the wood to the locker's wall. Now you have something you can screw into.

IF there is no cushion, you could also through bolt it from the cockpit side. You would need to use special "finishing washers" with a countersunk, flat head bolt. You would, of course, see these from the cockpit. But, they would have a nice appearance. This would be my last resort, but you'll need to make that call based on aesthetics.

I just screwed them in.
#8's will do, about 1/2" long.
On mine, there is a cushion behind it.

They are a whole lot better and easier to use than the original ones.
