I have some new speakers that I was going to install in my 185 Sport and I was wondering if there are any tricks to using a hole saw on figerglass. The last thing that I want to do is chew up the figerglass. Let me know anything helps.

One tip I have heard worked well is to the run the hole saw in reverse until the gelcoat is gone, then go forward. I have also heard people having great success w/ fostner bits. I have never done any of this before, but i read ALOT on CSR! haha If you do some searches, you will see a bunch of ppl have asked the same question. Good luck to you!

Tape the surface first. Running tha saw backwards until you cut through the gel coat and then going in forward gear helps. A forstner bit is great however I have not seen one in the size you would need for a speaker hole. A 2 inch forstner bit is the biggest I have.

Are you drilling a hole for the speakers or the wiring? A 5 or 6 inch hole saw is difficult to come by. If you can't find one then the trick is to score or cut the gel coat. You could tape the area and then put a template down to draw a circle with. Then slowly go over the line with a box cutter until you have cut through the gel coat. At that point you can use a saw since the gel coat won't crack. You could also use a dremel tool. Good Luck
