I have a 2003 200BR with the 5.0 MPI Alpha. It's new to me so I have no past experience with it, and I experienced an intermittent alarm yesterday afternoon while waiting my turn at the ramp to put it on the trailer. The manual indicates that the intermittent alarm is to alert for low drive oil, and it would be a continuous alarm if it was related to oil pressure or operating temperature.

I took it back out today and the intermittent alarm continued to sound every 3 minutes or so. I took out across the lake and eventually worked my way up to WOT. Everything was fine until I started trimming the drive up and got a continuous alarm. I pulled the throttle back to neutral and the alarm quit, but the intermittent alarm continued every few minutes. I attempted several times to trim the drive up at WOT, and even trimmed up and then opened the throttle. I know it wasn't a matter of the drive being trimmed too far up because all it would take was a couple bumps on the switch before the alarm would sound. I could trim the drive up as far as I wanted as long as the throttle wasn't wide open, and I could go WOT with the drive tucked all the way in with no problem.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

it could be the iac ( idle air control). when they go bad the will beep once every min or so then when you get up to speed or wot it will be a solid alarm. Someone with a DDT or a cds could hook to your motor and read thru your codes and tell you what it is. And boat doesn't have to be in water just ignition on.

The IAC connector showed signs of having been hot, and when I disconnected it, the intermittent alarm quit. I'll have to put it on the water to test whether this solves the WOT/Trim Up issue. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Nope, drive oil is fine.

For anyone who knows, does the replaceable portion of the IAC include the aluminum block where the rubber hoses attach, or does it separate from the plastic module where the electrical connector attaches?

IAC - make sure if you are doing yourself to replace the IAC gasket too. About $100 for the IAC and $1.50 for the gasket.

Just did my IAC the part includes the aluminum block

remove the 2 - 3/16 alen bolts
1 beer

Is the IAC a dealer-only part, or are there other sources? Where does the gasket go? I didn't see one when I removed the old one.

Gasket it between IAC and the Block that has the 2 water hoses

Unplug the wire from it. Remove the two screws. Pull it off from the block. The block with the two hoses stays on your engine. Replace the gasket and install new IAC.

Give me your serial # and i will tell you the part#. It probably is 862998 for the IAC and 27-863112 for the gasket.

You can get it from any mercury or quicksilver supplier.

You should really have a DDT or CDS to verify it is the problem. Your call.

if you buy the part you will then see exactly what comes off. but definitly hook the computer up to it. It might save you money.
