Got back from a day at the lake. Parked the trailer. Unhooked everything except missed the emergency brake lock cable. Moved the truck and when the cable became taunt it pulled out from the coupler and there was a retaining washer that gave way. It must have been there to stop accidental activations of the safety brake system. Lots of videos on how to repair/replace the coupler but nothing that I could find addressed replacing this little washer. Is it needed? As long as the surge piston is retracted, I should be ok to pull the trailer, correct? I worry about everything. Should I be worried about this?
