would any body be able to tell me what i should do for a alpha 1 drive that has been sitting for about 3 years and how much about it would cost for a dealer to do it..:smt089

Visualy look at the water hose and bellows. Check steering play. Change oil and check drain plug mag. Grease up service points. Run it and visualy check circulator pump flow.

As far as a dealer cost: a simple oil change would most likely be the cost of oil and up to an hour labor. Any thing more than that you might want to take it to the dealer and have them look at it and see what they say. Just to get an idea maybe you could call the dealer and ask for a ballpark figure to pull the drive and install a full service kit(water line, bellows, shift cable, pump, gimbel ...) Not saying you need to do all this, just saying this is an area that requires alot of inspection and attention.

Now I'm only speeking from experience with the two boats I've owned of wich I serviced both alpha units. Any boat will need alot of service to keep it going. With a 86 vintage boat like yours you can quickly put more $ into dealer services than the boat is worth. For the price of an hours labor you can buy a good service manual and teach yourself how to keep your unit in tip top shape. JMHO ...Ron

BTW: whats up with the "5.6m"?
