Hope someone can help and question not too complicated.

Boat has had a complicated modified charging circuit added and alternators were upgrade, I believe 100 amp with a three stage voltage regulator by the previous owners. Problem was that the voltage regulator failed, had one alternator had a burnt stator and the other one was weak. They were rebuilt and had an integral regulator put on as opposed trying to track down a three stage external. When the mechanic installed the alternators, he found the factory wiring and connected to that as opposed to the heavy battery cables that were installed after the fact. All batteries appear to be charging. Now, these heavy duty battery cables that were connected to the alternators went to an alternator amp shunt, that went to 2 six volt batteries in series. (the 6 volts are conneceted to a battery combiner) my question is this alternator shunt still required??

Hope this question isn't too complicated, tracing the wiring was!!!

Thanks
