This is my second season with the boat. Last year the unit would lose the bottom when I came up on plane and re-aquire it when I slowed down. I replaced the transducer over the winter and it is installed in the right place. I know it is in the water on plane.

My next try is to update the C80 software which I know has not been done but am skeptical that this will have any effect.

Any thoughts?

I have a 2005 280DA and a C80 unit. Mine does the same thing although not always. I have the latest updates installed and it won't matter. I believe you lose bottom due to air pockets or bubbles which interfere with the transducer.

Where is it installed? Is it a shoot thru set up? Mine was installed by the prior owner dead centre and the glass is too think there. I moved it outboard of the stringer and never had another problem.

It is installed on the stbd side aft of the genset in the molded place where thru hulls are supposed to go. The genset intake is on the port side opposite. It has no issue drawing water at any speed.

The old ducer had a faring block. The new one is flush. Both are thru hull not mounted inside and nothing is mounted forward of it that would create additional turbulence.

Works great before getting on plane but no depth when cruising along at 25 kts.
