I got around to installing my Artec T3A Pro DTV converter box today. Prior to the install I had zero channels. After the install I had 21 channels! I was blown away with how clear the reception was. Best $10 bucks I've ever spent.

I've trolled this site and quite get the information I’ve been racking my head on. So I have a 320 with a 3 TV set up and they all will be obsolete come Feb 2009 with regards to TV signal. Is there an easy way to convert them all without splicing in a converter to each TV? Will splitting the converter work?

On a slightly different note does anyone know where the split comes in from the Glomex, does it split out on the gain device to all three TVs? I was thinking if worse comes to worse I can hook up 3 DTV converters some around the split…

You can split the converter to three tv's but then they will all be broadcasting the same channel.

The only way to do it correctly is wire in a box for every tv.

You probably don't want to have a single converter driving all the TV's. The converter box is a tuner.. actually "THE" tuner for the TV and it dumps a video signal out to the TV. The converter boxes send out the video signal usually in one of two ways: 1) Injecting it on the analog cable under a certain channel (put your set on a given channel like "14" and everything from the converter box will show up on 14) or 2) composite video (yellow RCA plug). So there is no technical reason why you can't just put the converter upstream of the cable splitters (other than watch out for the Glomex power amp and make sure it's on the correct side) and all your TV's will see what is being put out by a single converter. However, all the TV's will only get the same thing and can not be independently controlled. Also, if the remote is IR, you'll have to distribute an IR signal so if you are not in line-of-sight of the box the remote to change channels will work. If the remote is RF, it won't matter.

Putting one box on for several TV's seems kludgey to me... Even more so than putting those things on in the first place.

Thanks for the replies, yes it’s definitely cludgey but I don’t have much of a choice unless I swap out all the TVs for a DTV compatibility. I was thinking of going the trackvision route but not sure I want to drop 2500 plus install and then a monthly subscription to directtv… I have FIOS at home so can’t piggy back on an additional receiver anymore! I just want to have the option to pick up a game or two when on the hook and I don’t envision two different channels on while in the boat since the TVs noise would intersect all over the place, so the split may be a decent idea!

If anyone else has some ideas/options they’ve done I’d love to hear them… I have to imagine that this is an issue for most boats that don’t have DTV compatible TVs??

Where did you find that box for $10? Granted I did not search much, but the cheapest on ebay was 20 something + shipping.
