Admiral and I will be working around the house packing and getting our daughter ready for college. We take her up on Tuesday, so we'll be local all weekend.

We may try and get out for few hours to the "Spot".....Anyone got any plans....?????? The weather forcast looks great!!!!

Well, after having my boat for two seasons, I have made it to the barnaget inlet three times (About 1 hour for me)

First time was "for giggles" last year on the way somewhere else -> Water a bit too rough to venture out into the open ocean.

Second time was more serious, and we made it to the ocean and puttered around for an hour or two in the Love Ladies area and a bit further south.

Third time my Starboard engine decided to overheat in the MIDDLE of the inlet. Cut that trip real short.

Today, the overheat problem is resolved ( ), the boat is fully fueledand I am planning to do a Barnegage to Manasquan run this weekend.

That's one I've done many times. It's a great day cruise.

We usually bring a cooler with our favorite beverage, some Subs and a few fishing poles with some jigs on the lines. When we run by Seaside, heading north, we slow down and eat lunch. Throw some bits of our subs overboard (only the eatable stuff of course) and see if we can't jig in a blue or two. Makes for good fun in the afternoon. Release any catches, and then head on up to Manasquan.

Once in the Manasquan, you can tie up at the Jack Bakers and tip a few cocktails (the crew of course) and then enjoy a slow ride through the Canal and back into the Bay. This would be a good oppurtunity for you to head down the Meteconk and eat dinner at the Pilot House. With the moon and NE winds, the tides have been high.

Then a nice night cruise home...One B-ute-E-full day....

Tell me how anyone can enjoy a cruise through the Point Pleasant Canal ??? That had to be tongue-in-cheek!!! :smt013

Are you going to the "secret spot" this weekend?

It is going to blow tonight (Friday) small craft advisory until tomorrow AM with gusts to 25. Were sleeping in the house tonignt....

I actually do enjoy the Canal run....frustrating sometimes, but I just mind my business and go .....

I certainly anticipate a day this weekend either at the "spot" or "Tices" ....

Sunday or Monday look like the best days for the great "Jersey Loop".....calm winds with warm temps are forcast...but that can change....

I have been to the pilot house by water: Quite do-able during the day. It would scare the jeebers out of me at night. I was down at captains inn two weekends ago: Getting out of there at 11:00 pm is as challenging as I want to get (but not really a big deal). Never been that far south at night. It was really cool. Have to do it more often.

I have been up the canal a few times. Quite a different experience. . . and I have never had any problems.

Never felt the need to hang at Tices. For me, it is FAR easier to get to the beach by car. For lounging on the boat, I like hanging in Silver Bay, up where I live. Far less crowded, and easy to bring out JetSkis to play with.

hey dominic
i spotted you on sunday afternoon. you were heading south towards the mantoloking bridge (near F cove), we were heading back towards the metedeconk when we crossed paths. there was such ridiculous bedlam everywhere and i was just trying to stay in the channel and not get run down by the wackos out there that i didnt take notice of your boat in particular til i passed you. then it occured to me it may be you so i snuck a glance back at the boat name. sorry i didnt wave then but it was too late.

we had spent the afternoon down at pelican island - the kids went on the rent-a-water-toy things.

Been having a serious boating weekend.

Saturday, we got our act together a tad late because of a stereo installation. But we enjoyed tunes while anchored at Tices (driven there a few times, but never anchored).

Sunday, we did the "Jersey loop".

Traveled north through the Canal, had Brunch at the Marina Grill (right next to MM in brick), then headed to the Manasquan inlet. Never been there before! The rail bridge was down, and there was SERIOUS boat congestion on both sides. We were amazed. Cruised on the outside to Barnaget staring at the people on shore staring at us: It was fun. The 2' seas were no big deal. Coming into Barnegate was a bit more interesting, as the waves were closer to 4' coming in. Wasn't sure if "fast" or "slow" was the right answer. I felt my heart hammering. . .but I actually did feel in total control. I went slow, while the passengers horsed around and took dumb pictures.

And of course, the depth finder starts to give me fits as I am doing the high speed slalom course on the bay side of the inlet. As I am coming to the last marker, I finally get a reliable "non-blinking" reading. 2.5 feet . . .2.3 feet. . . 2.1 feet. OH COME ON! THAT CAN"T BE RIGHT. I was only 50 feet from the marker on the CORRECT SIDE. I dunno. I made it.

We actually took more spray over the bow on the ride North through the Bay than we did out in the ocean.

Got home. . . everyone wiped out. Serious drinking then began.

Monday: Planned a beach day. Loaded everything into car. . .and all of a sudden the crew (I had no say!) decides to go boating. OK. twist my arm! Move all the gear to the boat! Off we go to tices. At 2pm, while watching various insane anchoring maneuvers, watching the wind kick up to 15-20mph, and getting hungry, we up anchor and head to Water's edge.

With the increased wind, the water between Barnegate inlet and Toms River is actually pretty rough. 2-3' swells, with very short period. We were taking serious broadside spray going across the bay, and things were very "jet-ski like" driving downwind. We all agreed that even grabbing a ball at Water's Edge would be unappealing. (And they were all taken!).

We are grilling salmon now at the house. :)

One more boating day (and fillup!) tomorrow!

sounds like a great couple of days! where'd your choice of places to gas up on toms river? is ocean gate still a BOAT/US participating marina?

anytime you head into 15-20mph NE winds heading north, or SE winds heading south, expect to get wet, esp when you take them slightly OFF the bow. 2-3' whitecaps on the bay are commonplace with these wind scenarios. one good thing about a bridge boat - you dont often have to wipe off your sunglasses!

Well, since I live in Silver Bay I have been tending towards Coty Marine for fuel. Real close, open till 7pm, and the guys there are very friendly. Only down side is that they are 10-20 cents higher in price.

I have been meaning to get more fuel stops. I pulled into Good Luck point two weekends ago -> liked the price, but they were closing as I got there (4pm), and thus no gas for me! Last weekend I fueled up near Marine Max, after filling the belly with Brunch at the Marina Grill.

Good Luck Point Maina only carries mid grade gasoline. Ocean Gate Yacht Basin carries Regular and High Test. OGYB offers $.10 off a gallon to BOAT/US members. With the discount, they usually are the best price in the area. and offer a well protected area away from the wind and boat traffic. They had the entrance to thier dock/marina dredged last week, so the low water issue is no longer an issue. Both GLPM and OGYB are LUKOIL
