All,

Just wanted to let those who don't know anything about bilge pumps and their associated floats (in the rectangular white shell, next to the bilge pump) in on a minor occurence that happened this weekend. Experienced boaters need not read on...

My sump bilge pump (under the carpet in the galley) kept running and I didn't know how to stop it. Well, it turns out that if your float gets dirty, it can stick and your bilge pump will run all day long, until it burns up. I know this sounds so elementary to most boaters, but until you have an issue like this, you never really have to know what to do.

All you have to do is unscrew (2 phillps head screws) the float, clean it with any cleaner (it's plastic), reinstall it, and you're done. The bilge pump stops at the water level it was designed to stop at.

Hope this helps someone in the future...

Eddie
