I am getting ready to buy boat stands for a 280da and cann't figure out which size to buy. Can some one reccommend the correct size/ size they use?

Derek,

I have a set for our 280 down at the boat yard. I'll try and get the dimensions for you. Its pretty crazy work wise at the moment so PM in a couple of days if you don't get a response.

Give these guys a call:

They will hook you up.

I believe I got 4 MB-2's last year for my 280SS. Shipping is a bit pricey. . .about $25 per stand; but overall cost was much cheaper than what I could get locally.

Combined with three sets of keel blocks, I think I had the best blocked SeaRay in Joisey.

Stands we are using are :

19"x 19" square base

27" ground to pad height

pad 12" x 12" 3/4" plywood with outdoor carpet (glued)

Stem is approximately 24" long of which 17" is threaded for height adjustment, bottom 6-7" is unthreaded provide support when stem is threaded to the max height.

Keep in mind the stands don't really carry the the weight of the boat, or hold it up. The blocking along the keel line does that. The stands just keep the boat from rolling off the blocks.

Somewhere I heard the rule of thumb of blocking every eight feet along the keel. I think your manual will talk about supporting at the "lift points" of the boat. On my boat, the lift marks are not indicated. I block the keel at three points (with four stands rigged to prebent tipping).

In my area, most boats my size (actually some even bigger) are just three point blocked (bow and on the corners).

Our yard uses blocks on the Keel at the lowest point in the bow, and then two sets at the stern port and starboard orientated at the trim tab line. The four stands are then set on sheets of plywood.

The stand height is selected to be appropriate for the blocking height. If the boat is blocked higher, then taller stands are required.

When I used my stands to raise the boat, to block the keel higher, I switched the stands to taller ones.

Stands will work when fully extended, but are much stronger when a smaller percentage extends out of the base.

Select the tallest stands that work based on the keel block height.
