:smt013 I have 1989 SR 390EC. I put a new starter on the port motor. On the first try to start the starter solenoid burned up!! Not sure why yet. Maybe a faulty solenoid?? Any clues?

Is your port motor a standard rotation motor? I've seen several threads here with people working on 390 express cruisers. Do you have the right starter? Might be completely off base here, but just a thought...

Hey.. thanks for the reply. My motor is a standard rotation ( CCW) 7.4 I also had that thought, but I did check the bendix gear and it was correct with the old starter. Could this problem come from low batteries from winter storage? I did have them charging while trying.
