Hello all, I considering putting a camper back on my 05 420 DA. Would anyone have a photo of one done or a camper back on the new style hard tops? I would like to see how it would look.

Thanks,
John

I'm helping by buddy do his '05 420, but we haven't started yet. Use 30mm Strata glass. I would make sure they come off the bottom of the back of the hard top like the original canvas. There will likely be triangular windows on the sides behind the arch. Make sure the vertical line at the back of them leans forward, not back. They love to make the top, back corner 90 degrees which makes the vertical line lean back. It goes opposite the lines of the boat.

Don't make the sides purely vertical. Make them lean in at the top to match angle of the sides of the hard top (support structure). Only make the bimini as long as absolutely necessary. It should end about over the front surface of the back seat cushions so that the rear window slopes down and back to follow the lines of the transom. Don't make it so short that people sitting on the back seat rub their hair on the glass, though.

The campers coming off hard tops look much better than those coming off arches. From arches, they come off the top and look like a big box on the back of a boat. From hard tops, they come off the bottom/back/insides, and since the normal structure covers most of the cockpit, they are a nice addition instead of an over-whelming one. Go for it. Especially in your climate. The best times are when it's cool/cold out. You close it up, turn on some heat, and doulble the useful size of your boat.

Don't use Eisenglass. Use Strataglass. The labor is the biggest expense, and by using Strata, you'll have a longer lasting product with much better optics that actually looks much better from inside and out.
