Hello,
I have a 22 ft. 2010 Sundeck on a fresh water lake. We're ready to venture into the Puget Sound and I'm looking at a chart plotter, pretty closely at one of the Garmin 5" GPS MAP. There are ports to inport engine data, NMEA. Any chance I can plug and play from the Mercury SmartCraft into this? I'd like to keep my existing gauges and wondering if there is a dangling NMEA port available and/or a splitter available. This info isn't imperative to have on the plotter but since the plotter has the capability maybe I'd hook it up. The engine is 2010 5.7 L with SmartCraft.
How necessary is the sounder? I have a depth gauge now as part of the Mercury system. It doesn't seem to be extremely accurate however it does inform me when the water is shallow. I believe the sounder is good for fishing however we won't fish at this point. Perhaps an option that can be added later...
I would like a smaller plotter with good results. Any other brands than Garmin, please advise.
Thank you
